Assessment Specialist- Pediatric Emergency Department- Nightshift

Job Summary Performs behavioral health diagnostic and psychosocial assessments utilizing the DSM, implements group, family and individual psychotherapeutic interventions including crisis intervention, develops treatment plans and disposition plans. Maintains contact with family and community agencies and makes referrals. Actively collaborates with team to meet patient care management and system improvement goals. Represents the behavioral health enterprise on institutional and community committees/task forces. Key Responsibilities Provides initial assessment and develops plan of care according to TN Department of Mental Health, The Joint Commission, IPFQR, HBIPS, and CMS Best Practice Guidelines and within the scope of their license by the Tennessee Health Related Boards. Provides targeted evidence‑based interventions into clinical practice with patients. Facilitates transitions to appropriate levels of care via in person, telephone or telehealth contact. Maintains professional documentation which meets department and VUMC standards as it relates to compliance. Acts as clinical liaison with patient, family, treatment team and community. Maintains confidentiality and privilege in accordance with TN state codes and statutes. Upholds ethical standards in accordance with relevant professional association’s code of ethics. Contributes to the organization by actively participating in process improvement initiatives and shared decision making. Engages in regularly scheduled supervision as required by the Tennessee Health Related Boards. Additional duties may be assigned. Technical Capabilities Patient Documentation (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of patient documentation in practical applications of a difficult nature, capable of delivering services without requiring support, and able to train and educate others. Patient Assessment (Intermediate): Mastery of patient assessments, capable of delivering results without requiring support, and able to train and educate others. Patient Diagnosis (Intermediate): Mastery of patient diagnosis, capable of delivering results without requiring support, and able to train and educate others. Clinical Counseling (Intermediate): Mastery of clinical counseling, capable of delivering results without requiring support, and able to train and educate others. Crisis Intervention (Intermediate): Mastery of crisis intervention, capable of delivering results without requiring support, and able to train and educate others. Risk Management (Intermediate): Full command of risk management, with analysis, identification, planning and control of procedures at the functional unit level. Peer Leadership (Novice): Demonstrates personal goal setting, teamwork, leadership in unsupervised situations, accepts constructive criticism, and helps others. Core Accountabilities Organizational Impact: Delivers job responsibilities that impact own job area/team with some guidance. Position Qualifications Certifications: Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health Services Provider Temporary License (LPC‑MHSP TEMP); Licensed Master of Social Work – Tennessee. Relevant Work Experience: 1 year. Education: Master’s degree in social work or related field.
