Job Summary Relief Veterinarian – Lakeland, Winchester, and Collierville. Hourly rate range $120-$140. The primary purpose of the Relief Veterinarian is to provide preventative care, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and injuries of pets. Responsibilities Ensure the safety of pets, clients, and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. Obtain relevant information and history from clients, and maintain proper and complete medical records. Educate clients about preventative care, pet health needs, diagnoses or treatments, hospital services, and related information. Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service including prescribing and administering preventative care for the wellness needs of pets and diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries of pets. Effectively communicate diagnosis and treatment plans to the veterinary medical team and the client. Ensure local, state, and federal laws are followed, including proper maintenance of the controlled substance inventory log. Understand and follow state guidelines regarding duties of veterinary assistants and licensed veterinary technicians. Perform other job duties as assigned. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required. License in good standing with the applicable state veterinary board. License with the Drug Enforcement Agency required. Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including use of all standard medical instruments and equipment. Strong communication skills in spoken and written English. Excellent organizational ability and systematic approach to assignments. Strong problem‑solving skills and decisive handling of difficult problems. Client service skills to ensure attentive, courteous, and informative service to clients. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and convert units of measurement. Comfortable and confident use of computer and specialized software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook). Management ability to enforce policies, maintain high morale, and promote common goals. Initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, independence, and resilience under stressful situations. Special Working Conditions Confident around pets of various species. Work may require more than 40 hours per week, including weekends and evenings. Requires mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, speaking English). Moderately high noise level. Requires ambulatory skills, ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb while manipulating up to 50 pounds. Good hand‑eye coordination, finger‑hand‑arm dexterity, and visual acuity. Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and controlled substances. Minimal travel may be required for vendor visits and associate education.
