Senior Project Scheduler
$110k - $150kPiping & Equipment
Company Overview P&E Constructors is an employee-owned (ESOP) mechanical and electrical construction firm executing large capital projects with deep roots in the industrial construction sector. Since 1946, we've delivered fabrication and installation services with a commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and client-focused solutions. Work Location & Travel Expectations This role supports projects across the United States and requires a high level of travel based on business and project needs. Candidates may be based anywhere within the U.S.; however, the selected individual should be prepared for assignments at various project locations nationwide. Travel for this position may reach up to approximately 90% . Project assignments generally last 10 to 17 months, depending on project duration and operational requirements. While assigned to a project away from home, eligible employees are provided per diem to assist with temporary living and travel-related expenses, in addition to a competitive base salary. To support project deployment, mobilization assistance may be provided, which can include mileage reimbursement or other approved travel support. Employees may also receive extended weekend rotations approximately once per month, allowing additional time for travel home. Position Overview The Senior Project Scheduler position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing comprehensive Critical Path Method (CPM) project schedules in Primavera P6 across P&E's mechanical and electrical construction projects. This role establishes and maintains the project baseline and critical path, integrates field progress and subcontractor input, performs schedule analysis, and delivers the reporting that keeps large capital projects on time. The Senior Project Scheduler serves as the on-site project scheduler on assigned projects, partnering with project managers, superintendents, estimators, and project controls to translate scope, sequencing, and means and methods into a realistic, resource-loaded plan. The role builds and maintains schedules to P&E standards and carries them through the Scheduling Department's baseline and progress-update reviews, forecasting schedule impacts before they affect the field. Responsibilities
To be Considered: Candidates Must be authorized to work in the country where the position is located. We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified individuals will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other criteria protected by governing law. Equal Opportunity Employer, including disabled and veterans.
- Build, status, and maintain detailed CPM project schedules in Primavera P6 each cycle, starting from P&E's approved corporate template and a phase-based work breakdown structure (Project Management & Controls, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning) coded to the job number and aligned to the COINS cost structure
- Establish and maintain the project critical path using Company P6 standards (Retained Logic, Physical % Complete, 0-day critical float threshold); analyze total float and near-critical paths to identify and communicate schedule risk
- Sequence work so it flows from mobilization through installation, test/energize, and substantial completion, and sequence demolition/detach-and-reuse scope explicitly into the appropriate completion milestones
- Complete and sign the Schedule Health & Quality Checklist at baseline and each formal update, verifying schedules to Company standards - no open ends or dangling logic, zero out-of-sequence logic, no negative lag (leads), minimized constraints, and reasonable float
- Resource-load activities from the standard library on the Company default Field 5x10 (50 hours/week) calendar, reconcile loaded manhours to the estimate, and generate manpower histograms and a cumulative earned-manhour S-curve (planned vs. actual)
- Produce the standard reporting set each cycle: the 3-week field execution look-ahead for the Superintendent, the 6-week subcontractor labor/headcount look-ahead, and the 90-day long-lead procurement review against the Procurement Tracking Log
- Status the schedule to a consistent weekly data date (Sunday COB), entering actual start/finish dates and updating remaining durations from field estimates of days remaining rather than simple percentage math
- Monitor float and variance; when negative float occurs, develop a Recovery Schedule and narrative and attach it to the update cycle per Company guidelines
- Manage schedule changes through fragnet integration and prepare time-impact analyses (TIAs) to support change orders, delay, and claims documentation per Company change-management guidelines
- Integrate subcontractor and vendor schedules into the master schedule, validate their logic and progress, and confirm committed subcontractor headcount for the upcoming six-week period
- Prepare the Basis of Schedule (BOS) narrative at baseline and schedule-narrative updates each cycle, and distribute the updated forecast schedule, narrative, and look-aheads to the Project Manager, Superintendent, and client per project reporting requirements
- Ensure schedules align with project scope, contract milestones, and means and methods, and comply with client and contractual scheduling specifications
- Coordinate with estimating and project controls to align budgeted manhours and cost with the schedule
- Manage baselines and revision control per Company standards (BL1 never deleted; date-stamped baseline/revision snapshots preserved under the client ARCHIVE node), and support project close-out with the as-built schedule and lessons learned
- Lead and mentor junior schedulers and project controls staff, sharing best practices in Primavera P6 and CPM scheduling
- Lead schedule review meetings with project teams, clients, and subcontractors, presenting status, risks, and recovery plans
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
- 12+ years of construction industry experience, preferably in industrial mechanical and/or electrical construction
- 7+ years of dedicated project scheduling experience using Primavera P6 on large capital projects
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6 (baseline development, resource/manhour loading, progress updating)
- Strong knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, total float, and schedule risk analysis
- Working knowledge of structured scheduling standards and a gated review process (basis-of-schedule narrative, schedule health/quality checklist, baseline and progress-update reviews)
- Ability to manage multiple project schedules simultaneously and meet reporting deadlines under pressure
- Experience preparing schedule narratives, variance reports, and time-impact analyses (TIAs)
- Understanding of construction sequencing, means and methods, and field coordination
- Resource/manhour loading and earned-value (progress curve) reporting
- Advanced Excel skills for schedule data analysis and reporting
- Strong communication and influencing skills - drives schedule discipline across project teams who own their schedules, contributing forward-looking input and building buy-in rather than relitigating past slips, and making it safe for the field to surface schedule problems early
- Experience working within ERP systems (COINS preferred); ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contractual scheduling requirements
- The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate's qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
- Performance-based merit increases and career growth opportunities
- Employee Ownership (ESOP) Share in the success and growth of the company
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000
- Flexible Spending Accounts (Healthcare & Dependent Care)
- Competitive compensation with ongoing performance reviews
- Financial planning and retirement savings opportunities
- Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance options
- Company-paid employee monthly medical premiums (P & E Constructors covers employee costs)
- Coverage available for spouse, domestic partners, and dependents
- Prescription drug coverage
- Telehealth services
- Wellness programs and resources
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- Paid Time Off (PTO)
- Paid Holidays
- Bereavement Leave
- Military Leave
- Work-life balance support programs

- Additional voluntary benefits are offered
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Perform physical movements such as bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing
- Safely navigate active construction sites, including uneven, confined, or cluttered work areas
- Work at elevated heights and comply with fall protection and safety requirements
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Work in environments with exposure to noise, dust, temperature extremes, and other construction-related conditions
- Interpret technical drawings and visualize three-dimensional concepts when needed
- Maintain sufficient vision, hearing, coordination, and awareness to safely perform job duties
- Ability to work extended shifts, including up to 12 hours, in outdoor construction environments and varying weather conditions
- Maintain physical stamina and strength to perform demanding job duties throughout the workday
