Assistant United States Attorney (Border Wall)

Duties and Responsibilities Assist in legal work pertaining to the establishment of the Border Wall in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the San Antonio, Texas office, focusing on land condemnation matters and related cases, primarily along the border with Mexico. Conduct owner and witness interviews, confirm land titles, negotiate property interests, and participate in federal eminent domain litigation, among other duties. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress. Residency and Background Requirements Residence: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which they are appointed or within 25 miles thereof (see 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information). Selective Service: If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt under the Selective Service Law. Pre-employment: Initial appointment conditioned upon satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. J.D. degree and active membership in the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required. Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof (district-specific information). Qualifications Required Qualifications: J.D. Degree, active bar membership (any U.S. jurisdiction), and at least 1 year of post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Strong academic credentials; sound judgment; experience in Texas property law, real estate, and/or title work; meticulous attention to detail; strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills; initiative and the ability to work independently and collaboratively; excellent legal research and writing skills; ability to analyze complex case issues accurately and precisely; commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service; technological proficiency with standard office software; familiarity with online public record databases; strong presentation development and delivery skills. Education Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree. Compensation and Benefits Salary Information: The pay range for AD-21 through AD-29 varies based on experience. Example for San Antonio: $77,876 to $197,100, including locality pay. The Department of Justice offers a comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, telework, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System.
