Clinicians can be floated across a variety of units, including all units within their specialty, which is common, and at times to areas outside their primary competency. If floated outside of their primary competency, a team-based care model will be implemented to ensure appropriate support. Cook may request a clinician to float outside of their home facility, provided the distance does not exceed 50 miles. Travelers may be notified of a float assignment up to 2 hours prior to the start of their shift. Refusal to float may result in cancellation of the assignment.
