Job Title: Construction Laborer

Pay: $25/hour starting

Job Description

This entry-level construction labor role supports pipefitters in installing fire suppression sprinkler systems on new construction projects. You will use hand tools to assist with hardware installation, cut ceiling tile and ceiling hardware, and perform general labor tasks while learning the trade and progressing toward becoming a Journeyman Pipefitter over time.

Responsibilities

• Assist pipefitters with the installation of fire suppression sprinkler systems in new construction facilities such as apartment buildings and assisted living communities.
• Use hand tools to install hardware required for sprinkler system installation, following directions and safety guidelines.
• Handle, organize, and distribute hardware and materials to pipefitters and other team members on the jobsite.
• Cut ceiling tile and ceiling hardware accurately to specified measurements using appropriate tools.
• Read and interpret tape measurements to ensure precise cutting and installation of materials.
• Perform general labor duties such as material handling, site cleanup, and basic construction support tasks.
• Work collaboratively as part of a team to complete sprinkler installation across entire buildings.
• Travel to various jobsites as required, including metro areas and other regions, and reliably meet at designated job locations.
• Follow all site safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Turn in required hotel receipts to the foreman weekly when eligible for higher per diem rates, in accordance with company policy.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and construction materials.
• Experience or strong interest in general labor, construction, landscaping, concrete work, lawn care, snow removal, warehouse, or similar hands-on roles.
• Basic proficiency with hand tools used in construction and carpentry tasks.
• Reliable transportation to consistently meet at various job sites.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team on active construction projects.
• Willingness and ability to travel to different job locations as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in general construction, carpentry, landscaping, concrete, snow removal, or warehouse work is beneficial.
• Apprentice-level interest in learning the pipefitting trade and progressing toward Journeyman status.
• Comfort working on new construction sites and adapting to changing jobsite conditions.
• Strong work ethic and reliability in attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to follow instructions and learn new skills on the job.

Work Environment

You will work on teams installing sprinkler systems in entire apartment buildings and assisted living facilities that are in the new construction phase and not yet occupied. The role is hands-on and physically active, involving regular use of hand tools, ceiling tile and hardware, and other construction materials. Most projects are located in metro areas, with additional work in regions such as Rochester, Iowa, North Dakota, and other locations, so travel will be required at times. Per diem is provided based on one-way mileage from your residence to the jobsite, with higher per diem rates requiring weekly submission of hotel receipts to the foreman. The environment is typical of commercial construction sites, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and completing installations efficiently and to specification.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
