Transportation Engineer

A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join its Columbus, Ohio team. This role involves the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects for state, county, municipal, and private sector clients. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative transportation solutions that improve mobility, safety, and community connectivity. Position Summary A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join its Columbus, Ohio team. This role involves the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects for state, county, municipal, and private sector clients. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative transportation solutions that improve mobility, safety, and community connectivity. Responsibilities Prepare roadway, highway, and transportation design plans for a variety of public infrastructure projects. Develop design calculations, engineering reports, technical specifications, and construction documents. Perform roadway geometric design, drainage coordination, utility coordination, and traffic-related analyses. Utilize engineering software including MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and related transportation design tools. Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders throughout project development. Assist with project planning, scope development, scheduling, and budgeting. Support preparation of permit applications and environmental documentation as required. Participate in field reviews, site investigations, and construction support activities. Ensure designs comply with ODOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and applicable local regulations. Contribute to proposal development and business development efforts. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or ability to obtain through reciprocity. 4+ years of transportation engineering experience preferred. Experience with roadway design, intersection improvements, corridor studies, and transportation infrastructure projects. Proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D. Familiarity with ODOT standards, specifications, and project development processes. Strong technical writing, communication, and project coordination skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a consulting environment. Preferred Experience ODOT transportation projects. Municipal roadway and corridor improvement projects. Roundabouts, roadway reconstruction, and multimodal transportation facilities. Traffic control planning and maintenance of traffic design. Construction administration and construction phase services.
