RN Clinical Nurse II (Per Diem) - Center Emergency Department SANE Nurse

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) RN Per Diem needed for the Emergency Department at UNC Medical Center.

The UNC Hospitals Emergency Department is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center serving as North Carolina's primary referral hospital as well as also serving as the community hospital for Chapel Hill/Orange County. The SANE RN will need to respond within one hour of being contacted for a patient exam. Duties will include perform medical forensic exams on adult and pediatric victims of sexual assault including head to toe medical assessment for trauma, detailed genital/anal examination, forensic specimen collection, supportive photo competent documentation of bodily and genital-anal injuries. While providing compassionate care to the patient the SANE RN will also work closely with the victim/survivor advocates, law enforcement, criminal justice officials and civil attorneys.

Strongly prefer experience SANE nurses. Must have completed SANE training and hold a current SANE education/training/program certificate of completion issued by an approved Adult Adolescent and Pediatric SANE program. Education/training must be based on the national recommendations of the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN)

This is a per diem position with expectations for commitment to be on call 24 hours per month. As a per diem employee you do not receive benefits and you are considered an at-will employee.

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities include education, evaluation of care, implementation, leadership, patient assessment, planning, and research.
