We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Hardware Engineer to support the design and development of locomotive control system hardware and electronic enclosure solutions for the LOCOTROL® product portfolio.
This role is ideal for Mechanical Engineers with experience in electronic enclosure design, sheet metal, injection molded plastics, and SolidWorks-based product development .
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Design and develop mechanical hardware solutions for locomotive control systems
✅ Create electronic enclosure and assembly designs using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools
✅ Support product design, development, manufacturability, and lifecycle maintenance activities
✅ Develop hardware requirements using DFX methodologies
✅ Support root cause investigations, field failures, and corrective actions
✅ Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering drawings in PLM systems
✅ Support hardware deployment from concept through manufacturing implementation
✅ Collaborate with Program Managers, Project Engineers, and cross-functional teams
✅ Participate in qualification testing activities including thermal, vibration, and EMI/EMC testing
Required Qualifications:
✔ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology
✔ 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience
✔ 3+ years of 3D CAD/CAE modeling experience ( SolidWorks preferred )
✔ 2+ years of electronic enclosure and assembly design experience
✔ Experience with sheet metal and injection molded plastic design
✔ Experience generating mechanical specifications and requirements documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
➕ Experience with Agile PLM or other configuration management systems
➕ Environmental qualification testing experience (thermal, vibration, EMI/EMC)
➕ Basic electrical troubleshooting knowledge and DMM usage
➕ Railroad or locomotive systems experience
➕ Experience with hardware lifecycle support and manufacturing integration
