Job Details State Role Title: Therapist III Hiring Range: $58.60/hour Pay Band: 5 Agency: Dept Behavioral Health/Develop Location: Catawba Hospital Agency Website: Recruitment Type: General Public - G Responsibilities Deliver programming, evaluations, and treatments designed to improve functional outcomes for adult and geriatric patients in a state-operated psychiatric facility. Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans within established timeframes. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, redirect patient behaviors as needed, and communicate patient progress, concerns, and behavioral changes to treatment teams and leadership. Ensure high‑quality, timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record, including assessments, treatment plans, interdisciplinary notes, and incident reporting. Educate patients, families, and staff on rehabilitation and therapy practices, support continuity of care, and contribute to training initiatives. Comply with licensure and certification standards, adhere to safety protocols, maintain reliable attendance, and participate in a professional, respectful work environment that promotes effective communication, teamwork, and positive patient outcomes. Minimum Qualifications Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to employment. Knowledge of principles and practices of recreational/physical therapy; ability to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document related to programs for individuals referred to groups. Ability to collaborate with peer therapists and interdisciplinary treatment teams and demonstrate positive communication skills. Additional Considerations Prior experience working in a psychiatric, behavioral health, or inpatient hospital setting. Experience providing physical therapy services to adult and geriatric populations. Previous experience in a state facility or other public sector healthcare environment.
