District Manager in Training

Essential Functions Provides information to store management by recapping promotional activity; reporting business opportunities, results, trends and competitive information. Manages controllable costs by educating managers on procedures for controlling merchandise variation, managing salaries, overtime, cash, repair and maintenance costs. Collaborates with Marketing team to ensure promotions and new product introductions are fully implemented. Provides feedback to category managers regarding stock issues and partners with vendors to ensure product availability. Executes monthly promotions on time. Ensures vendor performance and behavior are professional. Ensures store operations are profitable by managing cash and merchandise variation, salaries, and other controllable expense lines on the P&L. Enforces compliance with policies, procedures and government regulations, monitors restricted sales policies, and advises management of required actions. Protects employees, customers and company assets by maintaining a safe and secure working environment, enforcing safety practices, and providing safety communication and training. Achieves financial objectives through forecasting, budgeting, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions. Provides leadership and direction to store managers, assists with recruiting, selection, orientation, development and training programs, and plans, monitors and appraises job results. Establishes job expectations, coaches to develop action plans, administers counseling notices and initiates corrective actions. Implements non‑discriminatory management skills while hiring, training, counseling, motivating and separating employees. Adheres to the Company Operating Policy of Legal, Ethical, and Moral practices. Enhances professional and technical knowledge through education workshops, reading professional publications, building personal networks, and participating in professional societies. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing financial and key result area targets per the Company plan guidelines; allocates program costs by preparing operational and risk reports for analysis. Maintains staff through recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees, and plans, monitors, and appraises job results. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred; other combinations of job‑related experience and education that meet the requirements may be substituted. 3‑5 years of retail business experience or more preferred, including a minimum of 2 years of management responsibility. Experience with MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word preferred. Must demonstrate leadership ability, effective communication skills, self‑directed, self‑motivated, and customer‑service oriented. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English. Ability to supervise and train Store Managers in the use of store equipment, tools and materials, and manage the functions listed in the SM job description. A current valid driver’s license required to operate a company vehicle. Physical Requirements Sit for long periods of time. Operate computer keyboard and mouse for data entry. View computer monitor. Hear and speak via telephone. Reach forward and/or overhead. Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate within the normal range. The lighting includes natural light from outside as well as fluorescent lighting throughout the work areas. Work with minimum direction and periodic supervision.
