To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their education; to create a program of study and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to become successful individuals, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents/caregivers and with other staff members. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to equity and anti-bias educational practices in educational settings. POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teaches district-approved curriculum.
2. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
3. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the

students. 4. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students. 5. Establishes and maintains pupil-teacher relationships conducive to effective teaching and learning. 6. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. 7. Participates in planning of curriculum goals and relevant student performance objectives. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. 8. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like and communicates these objectives to students. Helps students to develop individual learning goals and objectives. 9. Develops appropriate instructional materials, activities, & lesson plans, with modifications and accommodations appropriate for individual students taking into consideration cognitive levels and age-appropriateness. 10. Evaluates individual student accomplishment of goals and objectives, records progress, and adjusts individual and group learning activities accordingly. 11. Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans. 12. Assists pupils in dealing with academic, personal, and social problems. 13. Works with guidance specialists, staff members, parents, and outside persons or agencies to assist students with special problems. 14. Works with parents/caregivers of individual children to help guide the growth and development of the children. 15. Demonstrates an understanding of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards. 16. Participates in ongoing professional development activities related to student population & certification areas. 17. Communicates regularly with parents/caregivers by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc. 18. Is available to students and parents/caregivers for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. 19. Properly utilizes and conserves physical facilities, equipment, and supplies. 20. Assists in the task of operating the school as a community of cooperative and constructive members. 21. Integrates technology within instruction to increase student comprehension and interest. 22. Maintain an understanding of the philosophies and principles utilized in District-wide programs. 23. Follows state and federal special education regulations, as outlined in the IDEA and the requirements set forth in 603 CMR 28.00 which are in addition to, or in some instances clarify or further elaborate, the special education rights and responsibilities outlined in state statute (M.G.L. c. 71B), federal statute (20 U.S.C. §1400 et seq. as amended), and federal regulations (34 CFR §300 et seq. as amended). 24. Follows all standards and indicators to the best of his or her ability, as described in the Sutton Public Schools Teacher Evaluation Agreement. 25. Adheres to the voted-upon collective bargaining agreement and any applicable MOUs/MOAs between the Sutton Teachers Association and School Committee 26. Other duties as assigned by administration.

Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and Board of Education policies 14. Understand confidentiality requirements regarding student records 15. Exercise good professional judgment in assessing emergency situations and act accordingly 16. Plan, coordinate, conduct and participate in ongoing professional and staff development 17. Operate a computer and related software including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace

KNOWLEDGE OF:

1. District policies, rules and regulations applicable to the school district and the school site
2. State and federal laws relating to contract management, methods and procedures of

educator supervision and evaluation, and student supervision 3. Current education theories and practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Professional verification of leadership experience in public school education, including at least five years of successful experience as a classroom teacher at the applicable level 2. Evidence of ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily; the requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required

EDUCATION:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

DESE Licensure in Physics, or Robotics/Engineering (6-12) SEI Endorsement

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee must be able to remain stationary for extended periods and occasionally move throughout the school building as needed. Regular use of hands for typing, handling objects, and operating tools is required, along with sufficient grip strength for various tasks. The role involves frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment such as a calculator, copier, and printer. The employee must be able to enter data, read from screens, and review handwritten or printed materials, with or without visual aids. Clear and effective communication with students, parents/caregivers, and colleagues—both in person and over the phone—is essential. Strong visual and auditory awareness is necessary to ensure student safety and provide meaningful feedback.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents/caregivers, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students. While the majority of the workday is spent inside, the employee must spend time outdoors for fire drills and/or special activities.
