Lead Hvac Mechanic Ii

To maintain and repair a wide variety of HVAC equipment in the district facilities to assure maximum effectiveness and efficiency of that equipment.

Job Qualifications / Requirements

• High school diploma, or equivalent, preferred. Refrigerant Certification is required.
• Extensive knowledge of the practices, materials, methods, tools, and equipment of the refrigerating and air conditioning trades.
• Extensive knowledge of the mechanical operation and repair characteristics of various brands and kinds of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and of the inter-relationship of other trades to the work of refrigeration and air conditioning.
• Extensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of HVAC work.
• Ability to completely maintain heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, and their controls in a given area or building group; must be able to perform all preventive maintenance and record-keeping relating to the HVACR field.
• Demonstrated skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the refrigeration trade.
• Completion of a recognized training course in HVAC; extensive experience in the repair of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which allows functioning at a master mechanic level as evidenced by licenses, certifications, etc. 1
• Knowledge or experience in computer automation control systems related to HVAC equipment.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Valid Georgia driver's license and safe driving record.
• Must obtain unrestricted CDL license within 60 days of employment. CDL training provided by RCPS.
• Physical demands - must be able to stand and walk the majority of the day, performing heavy manual labor; lift and carry thirty (30) pounds frequently and up to one hundred (100) pounds infrequently; push or pull same amounts frequently. The job also requires frequent bending and stooping. The job requires some work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Job Duties

• Is present at work every day and arrives at assigned time.
• Demonstrates an attitude and demeanor that contributes to an atmosphere of harmony and goodwill in the workplace.
• Interacts in a professional manner with students, staff, and school/district leaders.
• Plans, coordinates, and leads other mechanics in work incidental to the installation, repair, maintenance, and servicing of refrigerators, refrigeration equipment, air conditioning units and plants, and water-cooling systems.
• Consults with users of equipment to determine the exact nature of services required or malfunctions noted.
• Performs all preventive maintenance and repairs, troubleshooting electrical and pneumatic control systems, unit systems, mechanical plant systems, refrigeration systems, pumps, electric motors, cooling towers, freezers, coolers, water coolers, exhaust fans, thermostats, filter replacement, and boilers.
• Consults with administrative and supervisory personnel regarding new installations and modifications of existing systems; consults with same regarding the preparation of specifications for work to be done on contract.
• Attends approved training sessions, staff development activities, and required meetings.
• Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, or any criminal activity for which the employee becomes aware.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
