The Direct Support Professional strives to assure the health and safety of persons served while also encouraging them to take reasonable risks to foster growth and independence. The Vocational Direct Support Professional (DSP) - Float is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position that provides scheduled coverage and support across STRiVE vocational and day program settings and in the community. The employee's schedule and assigned program location(s) will be based on coverage needs. The DSP promotes the health, safety, rights, choice, independence, employment goals, community participation, and skill development of individuals receiving services. Float staff may be assigned to different vocational programs based on staffing needs and must be able to follow program-specific routines, individual plans, supervision requirements, and documentation expectations. 

· MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION. Maintains QMAP certification in good standing. Assists and supervises individuals in taking medications and completing treatments, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and regulations. Assures that medications are stored in accordance with applicable regulations and policies. Assure medications (prescription and over the counter) are available in adequate supplies to meet individual needs. Assures that there is a current physician order for all medications and that the order is correctly reflected on the medication administration record. Completes counts on all medication as required. Assures medications are properly labeled and correctly disposes of expired or discontinued medications. Assures that medication records are accurate and complete. Maintains the first aid kits.

· MEDICAL CARE/TREATMENT. Assures that individuals receive appropriate and timely medical care and treatment (routine and emergency). Assures timely follow-through on all medical orders. Adheres to all individual care plans and protocols. Assures that medical records are maintained in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.

RESPONSE TO EMERGENCIES. Recognizes and responds appropriately to medical, behavioral, and other emergencies as well possible abuse, neglect, mistreatment, or exploitation. Accesses emergency support from supervisor, on-call supervisor, or other administrative staff as appropriate and/or as required by policy. If necessary, arranges emergency medical transportation, and assures necessary information accompanies the individual. Makes appropriate notification, documents and reports emergencies as required by applicable policies, procedures and regulations supervisor, duty officer or other administrative staff as appropriate and/or as required by policy. Requirements:

Provides person-centered supervision, assistance, coaching, and support in accordance with each individual’s Service Plan/ISP, supervision level, safety plan, behavior support plan, rights modifications, and other applicable protocols.

 

Provides vocational coaching and supports individuals with workplace routines, task completion, productivity, communication, appropriate workplace behavior, and development of employment-related skills.

 

Supports participation in facility-based and community-based vocational/day program activities that reflect each individual’s interests, goals, abilities, and documented supports.

 

Encourages informed choice, self-advocacy, independence, community participation, and meaningful involvement while providing only the level of assistance needed for safe and successful participation.

 

Breaks vocational and program tasks into understandable steps and provides prompts, demonstrations, accommodations, repetition, and hands-on instruction based on individual learning needs.

 

Follows individual Behavior Support Plans, Safety Control Plans, approved rights modifications, and other behavior-related protocols using respectful, person-centered approaches.

 

Provides assistance with personal care, mobility, meals, positioning, toileting, hygiene, and other activities of daily living when required by the individual’s documented needs and the assigned vocational program.

 

Completes accurate, objective, and timely service documentation, attendance, ISP/program data, incident documentation, and other records required by STRiVE policy and the assigned program.

 

Transports individuals when assigned and authorized. Operates STRiVE vehicles safely, follows Transportation Department procedures, ensures passenger safety, and promptly reports vehicle concerns.

 

Assists with program set-up, clean-up, inventory, supplies, work areas, vocational materials, and other routine operational needs of the assigned program.

 

Reports to assigned vocational locations on time and provides float coverage across programs as staffing needs require. Communicates effectively with supervisors and team members regarding individual needs, schedules, and program expectations.

 

Recognizes and responds appropriately to medical, behavioral, safety, and other emergencies and completes required notifications and documentation.

 

Completes all required onboarding, program-specific orientation, and assigned training needed to safely provide coverage in each vocational program.

 

Assures necessary supplies, tools, equipment, and vocational materials are available for assigned activities. Monitors inventory and promptly communicates supply, equipment, or repair needs to the appropriate supervisor.

 

Uses program equipment and tools safely, completes routine care or basic preventive maintenance when trained and assigned, and promptly reports equipment problems or unsafe conditions.

 

Supports safe, clean, organized, and functional vocational work areas. Reports facility or maintenance concerns, submits or communicates work-order needs as directed, and assists with routine program set-up, clean-up, stocking, and organization.

 

Provides orientation, modeling, and job-site guidance to staff when assigned to help maintain consistent program routines, contract or work expectations, and individual health and safety supports.

 

Maintains flexibility to report to different STRiVE vocational programs, job sites, community locations, events, and seasonal activities as scheduled based on coverage needs.

 

Monitors individuals' participation and task completion and provides job supports, prompting, coaching, and redirection needed to help individuals remain engaged and successful in assigned vocational activities.

 

Supports individuals in food-service, barista, mobile food-truck, and customer-service activities when assigned, including teaching and modeling safe food preparation, beverage preparation, order fulfillment, point-of-sale tasks, cleaning, stocking, and other job skills appropriate to the program.

 

Operates program-specific equipment when trained and assigned, which may include Clover point-of-sale devices/registers, espresso machines, shaved-ice machines, coffee makers, panini presses, donut machines, and other vocational equipment. Follows applicable safety, sanitation, and program procedures.

 

When assigned and properly trained/authorized, drives or assists with operation and set-up of program vehicles and trailers for community events and vocational activities, including food-truck or event operations.

 

Maintains flexibility for schedule and reporting to where the need is.

 

Performs other job-related and DSP duties as assigned within the scope of the position, training, and applicable STRiVE policies and requirements.
