Responsibilities include greeting patients, taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, assisting with medical procedures, collecting laboratory specimens, and conducting administrative tasks as assigned. The Medical Assistant II maintains a clean, safe clinical environment and ensures efficient unit operations while providing compassionate, high-quality patient care. Takes a lead in the training of new incoming staff members.Receives and greets every patient in person or via telephone in a courteous and friendly manner using a welcoming positive tone, words and actions.Displays ownership of the entire patient experience, including but not limited to, rooming of patient, collection of vitals, complete and accurate phone messages, chart preparation, medication refills and the abstracting of external recordsRaises up emergent situations or expressed patient problems directly to RN, Supervising Nurse or Practitioner for assistance.Enters charges for supplies and clinical testingAssists with routing forms to appropriate Bassett department such as disability or workers compensation paperwork as applicableDistributes AVS per patients communication preferencePerforms all Point of Care testing as pertinent to specialty areaRuns controls on point of care testing equipment and ensures logbooks are updated appropriatelyPerforms clinical testing per departmental protocolCleans and stocks exam rooms on a daily basis or according to needChecks medications and supplies for outdates according to standards set forth by clinical areaMonitors supply levels to improve inventory controlMeets yearly competency requirements as set forth by departmental leadershipFloat to other locations or departments as requestedOpens and/or closes clinic per departmental guidelinesParticipates monthly or quarterly environmental rounds by following standards set forth by clinical areas as assignedAttends required in-services as requested by supervisorExhibits or recognizes areas of professional growth (ie, computer training, refresher training, EAP, Epic Superuser, etc.)Attends staff meetings, reviewing minutes of any meeting missedMaintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of Bassett policies and procedures as well as regulatory complianceTake a lead in service recovery and act as a service liaison in the momentActs as a trainer for incoming new staff or provides orientation as requested by supervisors for new employeesEnsures all orders have been pended in electronic medication record if necessaryEstablishes and maintains departmental record keepingPerforms audits using Tracers with AMP as assigned by leadershipActs as a lead for checking inventory and ordering clinical supplies as applicableServes as a clinical competency validator as applicableConducts annual in services as requested by supervisorServes in an organizational or unit based committeeRequired to complete 6 CE's per yearPerforms similar or related duties as requested or directedEducation:High School Diploma or GED, preferredExperience:Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience, requiredCustomer service experience, preferredLicense/Certification:Certification as a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant, preferredBLS certification 6 months from date of hire, requiredPhysical Requirements:Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objectsOccasional balancing, climbing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, fit testingFrequent typing/clerical/dexterity, grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), walkingHazards:Occasional bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure, burns, chemical, electrical, explosives, mechanicalWorking Conditions:Occasional noise, vibration, wet and/or humid, dust, fumes, gases, mists, odorsTravel:Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time-to-time, but not on a regular basisBassett Healthcare Network's commitment to our employees includes benefit programs carefully designed with the needs and values of all our employees in mind.
