Medical Laboratory Scientist II - Generalist Join the Quest Diagnostics Team Supporting Corewell Health in Watervliet, MI Paid Sign On Bonus: $9,000.00 (External Candidates Only) Location: Watervliet, MI Shift: 8:00 PM to 6:30 AM; every other weekend and holidays. Shift differential: Eligible for 10% on second shift and 15% on third shift on applicable hours. Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgement and responsibility in the specialties in which you are qualified by education, training and experience. Responsibilities Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot all applicable instruments/procedures. Support the department with quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects as assigned. Perform and report on assigned analytical tests according to Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring quality control requirements are met. Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and result documentation. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time, including critical results. Ensure reagents/test kits have recorded dates, expiration dates, and opened dates. Perform and document QC analysis to assure accuracy of clinical data and instrument function; make quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition. Inform supervisory personnel of all problems associated with test procedures. Report any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel. Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed by management. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. May assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a Supervisor when qualified and delegated. Other duties as assigned. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties. Qualifications Required Work Experience One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Work Experience Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with the most current year in the present department. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting and carrying: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; >50 lbs not without assistance. Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods. Frequent walking and/or standing. Use a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring significant manual dexterity. Knowledge Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty. Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; or prior qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (Mar 14, 1990). Foreign‑educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF. US‑educated candidates must submit original transcript. Other state‑specific requirements may apply; check with local HR or QA departments. Skills Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills. Detail‑oriented, capable of independent work, establishing priorities, and multitasking for maximum efficiency. Interpersonal skills for courteous and effective interactions with supervisors, co‑workers and clients. Communication skills for telephone inquiries from clients. Confidential handling of client information. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems. Education BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or prior qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.
