The Bellevue School District is committed to a diverse workforce representative of our students, one that embraces and models cultural competency as an international community.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)Translating using specialized vocabularyMaintains confidentiality as legally required with a firm understanding of attorney/client relationshipsMay be required to work extended hours or respond to deadlines with short turnaround timeMaintains professionalism and neutrality, providing accurate translation while focusing solely on the information being conveyed.Performs other job-related duties as assignedREPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:Reports directly to Language Access Coordinator (Welcome Center Department)EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):Required:Bilingual in English and at least one other languagePreferred:Previous experience providing translation supportPrevious experience working with children and/or adults in a learning environmentLICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):NoneKNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):Translator has an Advanced -Mid proficiency of the target language and in English.Translator has an Advanced writing proficiency.Translator conveys meaning rather than word-for-word translations.Translator has knowledge of the cultural aspects of both language groups.SKILLS (position requirements at entry):Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills in English and designated languageAbility to convey meaning rather than word-for-word translations.Proofreading of previously translated material with expectation to edit, revise, and adapt materials accordingly.Ability to accurately convey meaning without editing, summarizing, adding, or omitting meaning, using correct grammar and vocabularyAbility to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirementsAbility to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.Ability to prioritize and organize workPossesses strong attention to detail and proofreading skillsMaintains integrity and confidentiality of information obtainedPossesses effective customer service skills as required for the positionDemonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to work with diverse populations effectively and collaborativelyCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a general posting for one or more positions.
