Donor Specialist (San Antonio, TX) Job Overview The Donor Specialist supports KBR’s SPARC Program (Service Personnel Advancing Research on CTE) within the Science and Space division. The role focuses on education, registry enrollment, and brain tissue recovery for research on military brain injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. This onsite, rotating position requires on‑call availability during nights, weekends, and holidays. Key Responsibilities Approach and educate service members, veterans, and their families about brain donation and participation in the Brain Donation Awareness Registry. Lead community partner engagement, coordinate stakeholders, and maintain direct interactions with assigned commands. Establish and support regional outreach events to strengthen engagement efforts. Serve as the primary point of contact for notifications of potential donors and answer questions from families, healthcare workers, funeral home staff, and others. Screen donors, register study participants, and coordinate with coroners, medical examiners, and tissue transport providers to facilitate brain donation. Collaborate with Peer/Family Educators on recruitment activities. Perform ancillary tissue recovery duties as needed, including verifying donor identity, reviewing consent and chain‑of‑custody documentation, assisting coroners and pathologists, completing required forms, sectioning and processing tissue, preparing specimens for shipping, and coordinating transport of bodies after recovery. Protect research participant rights and welfare in compliance with federal regulations and DoD policies. Ensure all key personnel have completed required human‑research education and develop training materials related to protocol requirements and study activities. Attend investigator meetings, prepare study documents (consent forms, case report forms, enrollment logs), and submit protocol modifications. Coordinate participant tests and procedures, interview families about donor medical history, and maintain adequate inventory of study supplies. Maintain effective communication with sponsors, participants, and supervisors throughout the study, report unanticipated problems promptly, and resolve day‑to‑day study challenges. Required Education / Experience Bachelor’s degree plus at least 2 years of experience in human‑subject research, tissue donation, clinical laboratory work, nursing, or similar fields; OR an associate’s degree with at least four years of substantive experience in these areas; OR 10 years of related experience in lieu of a degree. Preferred Education / Experience Prior experience working in military environments and interacting with service members and their families. Proficiency in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking). Experience in tissue or organ donation.
