Job Purpose: The Staff Development Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing hospital-wide educational and training programs for staff, providers, contractors, and students. Educational and training programs will be designed to meet hospital needs as well as regulatory and accreditation requirements. The specialist will oversee training and development programs for both clinical and non-clinical staff.
Education & Qualifications : BS in Nursing. Graduate degree in nursing, healthcare field, or education is preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications : Active and unrestricted Texas (or Compact) RN license. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification. AHA or Red Cross Instructor level certification is preferred.
Work Experience : Two (2) years of applied clinical experience as an RN in a health-related clinical leadership role. Prior experience in education and/or critical care is preferred.

Ability to utilize full range of body motion in occasionally handling and lifting patients. Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing. Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving. Requires Normal visual acuity and hearing. Potential for exposure to bodily fluids.
Special Requirements: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong information technology skills in using Microsoft Office products, Learning Management Solutions (preferably HealthStream), Data analysis and Visualization, and Electronic Medical Records (preferably Meditech Expanse experience).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and implement hospital-wide educational activities.
- Coordinate and implement Meditech Expanse training activities for staff and providers.
- Assess, on regular basis, available educational resources and recommend changes based on identified gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop individual learning requirements based on hospital, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Manage the hospital’s learning management system for all staff, including but is not limited to managing staff profiles, developing content when needed, assigning learning material, and generating reports for department leaders.
- Manage resuscitation training program for BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- Conduct training and development activities for individual staff members and in group sessions and just-in-time education.
- Coordinate, design and implement regular training events (e.g., new employee orientation, annual skills fair, quality week, infection control week…etc.)
- Coordinate with vendors training activities on newly acquired equipment.
- Work closely with departmental leaders to identify departmental needs and design educational and training activities accordingly.
- Monitor and report to respective stakeholders training and development goals, metrics, activities, and compliance statistics.
- Maintain educational equipment and resources.
- Maintain records of staff competencies and certification as per record keeping requirements (e.g., ensuring that staff records are maintained in their personnel files).
- Evaluate the effectiveness of orientation, training and education and assure continued effectiveness through quality improvement efforts.
- Serve as a role model to promote excellence in learning and development.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements, accreditations standards, and best practices.
- Participate in hospital committees, task forces, projects for areas of coverage within organization.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that support best practices in patient care and operational efficiency.
- Facilitate teambuilding and leadership skills development
