Maintenance Plumber

The County of Riverside's Facilities Management Department is seeking to fill two Maintenance Plumber vacancies, one in Banning and one in Murrieta. Work Locations Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility – 1627 S. Hargrave St., Banning, CA, 92220 Cois M. Byrd Detention Center – 30755-B Auld Road, Murrieta, CA, 92563 Overview Maintenance plumbers will be tasked to perform skilled work installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems and equipment, and to do other work as required. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have experience with commercial and industrial plumbing systems, including familiarity with air control systems (e.g., air manifolds), boilers, water heaters, and facility infrastructure. Candidates with experience troubleshooting plumbing issues in both interior and exterior facility settings are preferred. Competitive Candidates Will Have Experience In the Following Areas Overseeing and managing multiple work assignments with strong attention to detail Commercial and industrial plumbing systems, including installation, troubleshooting, and repair Familiarity with air control systems and manifolds (e.g., AirTrol/Aircold systems) Ordering parts, coordinating with vendors, and obtaining price quotes Knowledge of plumbing parts, materials, and inventory management Experience working in a municipal or government environment Experience working in detention centers, jails, or other secure institutional facilities Security Clearance A successful Security Clearance conducted by the Sheriff's Department is required for this position. Schedule 6am – 5pm, off on Mondays. Responsibilities Install and replace water and sewer lines, fixtures, valves, heaters, and other devices following blueprints, sketches, and written and oral directions. Test and locate trouble in plumbing systems; repair valves, pipelines, faucets, and fixtures, repack valves and replace defective parts; cut and thread pipe; clean out obstructions in drains for water and sewer systems. Supervise the work of helpers; maintain proper steam pressure and water levels on an assigned shift as required. Estimate cost of new plumbing and installations. Qualifications / Experience Option I: Completion of a recognized plumbers apprenticeship training program. Option II: Four years of increasingly responsible experience performing work in installing and repairing plumbing systems and equipment; or two years of the required experience may be substituted on the basis of: Completion of 12 semester or 18 quarter units in trade related courses at a recognized college, equal to six months of experience. Completion of 144 hours of trade related instruction at a union training center, adult school, vocational school, or specialized industrial program, equal to six months of experience. Knowledge The methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the plumbing trade; pertinent plumbing codes. Ability Read and write English at the level necessary for successful job performance; work from blueprints and sketches, or oral and written directions; use the tools and equipment of the plumbing trade; lay out, estimate procedures, and install plumbing systems. Other Requirements License/Certificate: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver License at the time of application. Physical Requirements Pick up materials, equipment, and tools, work in confined spaces, and perform duties within a secured detention facility environment while adhering to all applicable safety and security protocols.
