Instructional Systems Specialist

About the Role We are seeking an energetic, highly motivated marketing and communications specialist to help promote the City of Gainesville and its services. The successful candidate will develop marketing messaging, coordinate events, respond to emergencies with accurate and timely information, and support the city’s short‑ and long‑term marketing objectives. Responsibilities Develop and implement marketing and communication plans to support city or utility objectives. Assist in the development of plans to support specific sales objectives and monitor progress toward goals. Provide support for city or utility initiatives and events as needed. Identify prospective new customers and emerging services to enhance market position. Collaborate with the sales team to meet sales objectives (for utility assignment). Develop marketing materials across multiple platforms (interactive, mass, targeted, broadcast media, websites, events, trade shows). Coordinate volunteer efforts that help achieve city or utility objectives. Serve as spokesperson and/or media liaison during emergencies and non‑emergencies. Write information pieces and maintain relationships with employees, the financial community, customers, media, and professional/industry associations. Design and implement market and customer research to evaluate results and adjust strategies. Make recommendations to management regarding strategies that advance city or utility objectives. Assist in the development of the department’s annual budget. Participate in industry organizations and write proposals for products and services (utility assignment). Maintain an accurate customer marketing database. Attend work on a regular and continuous basis. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduated from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism, communications, or a related field and have at least four (4) years of experience in a similar role; or Graduated from an accredited two‑year college or university with an associate degree, or have two years of work toward a four‑year degree, and have at least six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism, or communications. Valid Florida driver’s license (required). APR certification preferred for General Government assignment. Ability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call rotation during emergencies. Physical ability to lift, move, and arrange equipment, materials, and props; willingness to travel as required.
