Senior Software Engineer Needham, Massachusetts

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work with a small team of full‑stack developers on all server‑side aspects of HVAC home automation and security. Your mandate is very broad and includes processing HVAC‑related events, provisioning equipment, monitoring alerts, test automation, and integrating a diverse set of devices with the Alarm.com connected ecosystem. You will work on backend services, websites, and database design that make up our whole ecosystem.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of technical areas. Typical projects involve diverse technologies and skills and require close collaboration with device engineers, business partners, and other engineering teams. Strong multi‑tasking and self‑learning skills are must‑haves. Candidates must communicate well within a team and work independently on self‑directed tasks.

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ALARM.COM?
  • Lead and develop full‑stack software across a wide variety of platforms and technologies.
  • Take part throughout the project life cycle, from requirements to deployment, with cross‑team collaboration.
  • Engage in research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging project goals.
  • Exercise good judgment, knowing when to work quickly and when to build robust solutions.
  • Bring your ideas; we encourage collaboration on product development rather than strict specification adherence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience leading projects to completion and mentoring other engineers.
  • Strong object‑oriented programming skills.
  • Experience with C#, .NET Core is a plus.
  • Experience with database design and development.
DESIRED (but not required)
  • Experience working with high‑availability, high‑throughput services.
  • Experience in an enterprise‑scale microservices architecture.
  • Experience with external facing APIs and/or third‑party platform integrations.
  • Familiarity with distributed event streaming platforms such as Kafka.
BASE SALARY RANGE

$145,000 - $155,000 USD
