Registered Nurse (RN) - Special Care Nursery

Job Overview M Health Fairview is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Special Care Nursery Unit at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, MN. This position is 0.75 FTE (60 hours per two weeks) on the overnight shift (7 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.), 12‑hour shifts, with an every third weekend rotation and a holiday rotation. The schedule is variable. About the Special Care Nursery Our SCN nurses care for newborns in the SCN (CPAP, Blii lights, lines, triple I) and on the floor for late preterm infants. The nurses are also trained to provide postpartum care for mother/baby couples. Woodwinds has achieved Baby‑Friendly designation 16 Labor & Delivery Rooms 8 Mother‑Baby/MS rooms 3 triage rooms Average 180 births per month Six‑week patterned schedule On‑call shifts are voluntary Holiday rotation – work every third Christmas Helpful team members Special Care Nursery Level 2 (34 weeks) Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has at least one year of hospital experience, preferably in obstetrics or NICU. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate commitment to the principles of the patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) and achieve the Woodwinds nursing vision and strategy. Utilize the nursing process – assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation – to coordinate outcome‑focused patient care. Incorporate holistic nursing theory based on Watson’s Theory of Caring when holistic therapy is offered. Communicate effectively with patients/families, physicians, the interdependent team, and other disciplines regarding the plan of care. Assess and document learning needs of the patient and family. Develop an individualized education plan based on identified needs. Participate actively in creating and implementing improvements at the point of care to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, nursing engagement, and efficiency and effectiveness outcomes. Comply with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, board of nursing requirements, patient‑safety requirements, infection‑control practices, and other established practice standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures. Coordinate the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork and cooperation. Participate in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement). Maintain knowledge of and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards. Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
