Job Type: Classified Job Classification: 5529 - Electronics Specialist II Salary Grade: 13 Pay Range: Hiring Range: $29.09 - $34.91 per hour; Pay Range: $29.09 - $40.73 per hour Department: Facilities Management The Electronics Specialist II performs journeyman-level maintenance, repair, diagnosis, troubleshooting, fabrication, and preventive maintenance involving commercial-level electronics work. The position also does fiber optic and copper cabling, network setup, and maintenance, along with low voltage systems and telecommunication infrastructure. Understanding of computer networking and related tools is required. Preparation, splicing, and testing of cables as well as troubleshooting and repairing splices are performed. This position is required to work rotating on-call shifts. First review of applications will be on 03/20/2026. Essential Functions Leads and participates in skilled analysis, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of complex electronic systems, controls, instrumentation, and related equipment. Provides technical direction, training, and oversight to assigned staff in proper repair, diagnostic, and safety practices. Plans, coordinates, and reviews work assignments to ensure timely completion and compliance with standards, codes, and specifications. Performs advanced quality control testing and diagnostic analysis to ensure system reliability, and implements corrective or preventive measures as required. Designs, fabricates, modifies, or installs electronic equipment, components, and systems from plans, sketches, or technical drawings. Prepares cost estimates, material requisitions, and project documentation for specialized repair, maintenance, and installation work. Prepares detailed sketches, diagrams, and reports to communicate technical information to supervisors, subordinates, and contractors. Maintains accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment performance. Inspects and approves the work of others when authorized or certified to do so. Coordinates work-unit activities with other departments, agencies, or contractors to optimize resources and minimize service disruptions. Monitors and evaluates contractor performance for compliance with specifications and quality standards. Ensures proper use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and maintains accountability for all tools, equipment, and safety devices in sensitive or restricted settings. Minimum Qualifications Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in the electronics trade AND three years of relevant journey-level experience. Or one year with Pima County in an Electronics Specialist I or closely related position. Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted. Preferred Qualifications Minimum three (3) years experience fiber splicing, cable pulling, and termination for both fiber optic and Ethernet networks. Minimum three (3) years experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, and other networking equipment. Minimum three (3) years experience conducting network installation tasks including cabling, testing, and certification of structured wiring systems. Experience setting up telephony systems and ensuring proper integration with existing network infrastructure. Experience using hand tools such as crimpers, wire strippers, and ohmmeters to install and test low voltage wiring. Licenses and Certifications Valid driver license at time of application (Arizona Class D). Valid AZ driver license at time of appointment. 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review required. NICET Level 1 Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems Certification required within six months of employment. Physical and Sensory Requirements Post-offer physical assessment required. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Safe operation of assigned vehicles and powered equipment. Work in extremes of heat, humidity, dust, and cold. Wear required safety clothing and equipment. Work in environments with noxious odors or chemicals. Ascend and descend ladders and stairs to reach elevated or below-grade work platforms. Differentiate between colors. Working Conditions Position requires on-call hours. Occasionally performs duties at correctional facilities, detention centers, and other high-secure areas.
