Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position in Albany, GA, requiring at least 2 years of stepdown experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting in a 44-bed Cardiac Stepdown unit (4A/4B)
• 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients; 4B manages smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
• Common diagnoses include post-op CABG, fem-pop bypass, AAA repair, EVARS, CEA, thoracotomy, VATS, arteriograms, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, and A-fib with RVR
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with nurse aide support at 1:10
• Telemetry monitoring required using Philips equipment; nurses must read and interpret strips
• Common drips include Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine (renal dose), Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vasopresol
• Ventilatory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen (no full vents)
• Support services include in-house hospitalist/intensivist 24/7, RT 24/7, pharmacy 24/7, and a PICC team
• EMR: MEDITECH
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend required
• Floating to the ICU is possible; travelers without ICU experience will only take stepdown-level patients or assist with tasks in the ICU
• 17-week contract

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting required — no exceptions
• Cardiovascular or cardiothoracic stepdown experience strongly preferred
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Experience managing cardiac drips required
• Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility (measured to the address on their driver's license) to be eligible for this position
• Candidates who have been employed by this facility within the last 12 months are not eligible
• Unit orientation consists of 3 shifts
• Ability to pull pacer wires is preferred; orientation to the skill will be provided if needed
• Fast-paced unit with high patient turnover — average census of 32–38 patients, with 12–16 discharges and admissions on busy shifts
• Holiday flexibility is required; must be available to work holidays and surrounding days as needed
• Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
• Dress code: natural hair color, no fake or shellac nails, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
• Strong attendance is essential — absences are tracked per facility policy
• Time off requests and scheduling preferences must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment to be honored
• Albany, GA is a city of approximately 80,000 residents, located 175 miles from Atlanta
