.833 FTE, 12-month, benefits-eligible position. In addition to providing direct clinical services, the Clinical Counselor plays an important role in prevention programming, campus consultation, crisis response, and collaboration with campus and community partners to support student well-being. This Master's or Doctoral-level therapist has the opportunity to facilitate the health and well-being of the EOU campus community by providing students with both short- and longer-term therapy, education, crisis intervention, consultation, and mental health services in an affirming, respectful, compassionate, and inclusive environment. Given that this is a two-person Counseling Center, the Clinical Counselor will also have the opportunity to experience a highly collaborative relationship with the Counseling Center director, while also assisting the director in managing some administrative and clinical operations. - Have the clinical skills and presence to practice cultural humility; to work effectively, sensitively, and compassionately with diverse populations.
- Have a demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
- Be able to conduct short and longer-term treatment from a developmental perspective
- Be able to build professionally collaborative working relationships, both on campus and within the community.
- Have proficiency in oral and written communication skills and in leading group discussions
- Have the desire to engage in extensive outreach activities both within the curricular and co-curricular arenas.
- Have the ability to keep good client records and use Titanium scheduler/database.
- Take initiative and be flexible in response to developing demands and challenges of the position; recognizing that the EOU Counseling Center consists of only 2 therapists - the director and the person hired for this position.
- Be able to function autonomously as the person in this position will be responsible for managing the clinical aspects of the Counseling Center in the absence of the Director .
- Be available and willing to participate in and conduct occasional evening or weekend activities.
- Be open to working a 12-month; .833 FTE with "peak" (during the academic year) and "non-peak" (during summer months and winter break) work times.
- Provides direct personal, developmental, academic, vocational/career, and crisis psychotherapy services to a caseload of student clients.
- Conducts therapy within an individual, couples/marital, and group frameworks.
- Conducts initial intakes to develop a treatment plan and assist students in accessing appropriate psychological services and other resources on campus.
- Makes appropriate referrals to campus and community resources.
- Serves as an advocate and a liaison in the referral of students to campus and community resources.
- Maintains appropriate documentation (e.g. clinical notes) for all services.
- Utilize both in-person and telehealth (HIPAA secured Zoom) options for clinical services and campus outreach.
- Provides outreach activities and programs to the campus community to increase awareness and educate the campus community regarding mental health issues.
- Guest lectures in academic classes when asked to.
- Conducts in-service trainings for Residence Life staff and other student leader groups.
- Represents EOU and facilitates campus and community partnerships through participation on local and statewide committees related to mental health, suicide prevention, and student well-being (e.g., Union County Sexual Assault Response Team, Union County Suicide Prevention/Postvention Coalition, Oregon Campuses United for Suicide Prevention).
- Responds to calls/inquiries from faculty, staff, students and families, regarding mental health issues that affect the well-being and academic progress of students.
- Designs and offers training that equips student leaders, faculty, and staff to understand the student developmental process and how to effectively work with students.
- Consults regularly with the Student Wellness Specialist to provide seamless access to counseling services.
- Consults with Grande Ronde Hospital and Center for Human Development staff regarding the interface between medical and mental health care.
- Consults and collaborates with community partners to enhance effective treatment and case management of students.
- May serve on the Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT) and/or the CARE Team.
- Provides assistance to the Director in the development and administration of the Counseling Center (CC).
- Attends meetings with the Student Wellness Specialist, Student Affairs division meetings, and other meetings pertaining to position duties.
- Manages the CC when the Director is away from the office.
- Obtains licensure (if unlicensed) and then maintains a professional license in Oregon.
- Maintains knowledge of ethical and legal standards of care, and provides all series in keeping with these standards.
- Continues professional development through workshops and professional affiliations.
- Maintains knowledge of national trends and campus issues regarding mental health.
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related mental health field.
- Hold a current Oregon license or be license-eligible in the state of Oregon as an LCSW, LPC, or other related mental health professional within two years of employment.
- One (1) year of post-graduate experience in the mental health field.
- Three (3) years of experience demonstrating the ability to:
- Effectively manage crisis situations.
- Conduct psychological assessments relative to treatment planning.
- Establish effective treatment plans from both long- and short-term therapeutic frameworks.
- Provide personal, academic, career, and crisis counseling.
- Apply counseling theories and techniques in clinical practice.
- Apply ethical codes and related legal statutes and integrate changes into practice.
- Recognize and work within professional limits of competence as they relate to the provision of counseling services.
- Work effectively with individuals from a variety of cultures, identities, and backgrounds.
- Seek consultation and continuing education to enhance clinical services and integrate constructive feedback into practice.
- One (1) year of experience demonstrating the ability to:
- Provide effective consultation to faculty and staff.
- Develop and deliver outreach programs for students, faculty, and staff.
- Utilize community referral options.
- One (1) year of experience demonstrating the ability to:
- Work effectively in team environments.
- Communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.
- Utilize word-processing software and electronic health record systems.
- Utilize (or learn) Titanium software
- Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar for employment.
- In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Eastern Oregon University will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
- Psy.D. or Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
- Five (5) years of clinical counseling experience demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge, skills, and expertise, including the ability to execute clinical duties and decision-making assessments with a high degree of autonomy.
- Two (2) years of outreach and consultation experience, including the development and presentation of trainings, workshops, and educational programming.
- One (1) year of experience using, maintaining, or supporting websites and communication platforms such as WordPress.
