Surgical Tech - Certified Surg Tech

Certified Surg TechFunctions as a member of the surgical team under the direction of the registered nurse. Performs scrub functions and other roles that support the perioperative plan of care. Assures the provision of comfort, safety, and quality perioperative care for the patient. Demonstrates knowledge of operative procedures. Responsible for draping, instrumentation, sutures, and equipment. Ability to aseptically set up and maintain organization of mayo and back tables throughout procedures. Counts and accounts for all required items prior to, during, and following procedures. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Checks instrumentation, equipment, and supplies prior to use in a procedure. Demonstrates knowledge of specific uses of equipment and supplies used for surgical procedures. Seeks information and support for areas of knowledge deficit prior to use. Plans, prepares, and functions in emergency situations. Ensures the operating room is ready before the scheduled case. Minimizes turnover by assisting and preparing for the next case. Stays in the operating room when the patient is brought in. Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes principles of aseptic technique. Assesses the safety and mechanical condition of equipment and reports any malfunctions. Demonstrates competency in handling, identifying, and labeling medications on the sterile field. Properly disposes of sharps, such as needles, blades, and bovie tips. Assists in proper cleaning, moving, and storage of equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization and disinfection techniques. Ensures proper cleanliness of instrumentation prior to disinfection or sterilization. Corrects situations in support of surgical conscience as appropriate. Actively participates in unit activities. Demonstrates behaviors of teamwork. Exhibits a positive attitude and willingness to accept assignments. Collaborates and cooperates with team members. Attends staff meetings or reads meeting minutes when unable to attend. Participates in the orientation of new staff or students. Submits updates to preference cards. Exhibits constructive use of free time. Completes special duties as assigned. Demonstrates initiative in improving department services. Maintains versatility in a variety of OR specialties. Keeps up with current advancements in the OR. Understands performance improvement and job accountability related to goals. Supports patient safety goals. Attends all required safety training programs.
