The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals. This area includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. Together, the Greater Manchester Region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.

POSITION SUMMARY:

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. It is essential to communicate the patient's clinical status appropriately and respond swiftly and accurately to any changes in their condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the populations served. You will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions and collegiality, reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

COMPETENCIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competencies

1. Conducts comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.

2. Collaborates with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data for each surgical patient.

3. Adheres to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their appropriate use based on patient age and clinical condition, in accordance with Surgical Services policies.

4. Provides all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes, following established policies for patient identification and surgical procedures.

5. Timely documents the nursing process and patient responses using the appropriate tools.

6. Exhibits flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.

7. Engages in autonomous practice aligned with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.

8. Understands growth and development principles across the lifespan, interpreting patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.

9. Provides accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.

1. Prepares the surgical room promptly with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each procedure.

1. Maintains aseptic technique throughout the surgical process, identifying and communicating any breaches to the surgical team and assisting with corrective measures.

1. Effectively communicates with the surgeon regarding the accounting of sponges, needles, and instruments, reporting any discrepancies immediately and documenting all counts accurately.

1. Accurately records, handles, labels, and processes specimens.

1. Demonstrates proficiency in the scrub role.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
• Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery settings, particularly assisting with C-sections, is required.
