CNC Operator 2nd Shift This role operates CNC mills and lathes in a fast-paced prototype and low-production environment, producing precision parts to tight tolerances. You will use digital micrometers and calipers daily to verify dimensions and ensure high-quality output while meeting strict timelines on a consistent 2nd shift schedule. Responsibilities Operate CNC mills and/or lathes in a prototype or low-production environment to produce precision components. Set up and run machines according to specifications, ensuring parts meet tight tolerances and quality standards. Use digital micrometers, calipers, and other hand tools daily to perform accurate measurements and verify part dimensions. Monitor machine performance during operation and make basic adjustments as needed to maintain part quality. Work efficiently in a very fast-paced environment while meeting strict production schedules and deadlines. Follow established procedures, work instructions, and safety guidelines while operating all equipment. Inspect finished parts and identify any defects or deviations, escalating issues when necessary. Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to overall shop cleanliness. Adapt to overtime requirements, including extended weekday hours and occasional Saturday work when needed. Essential Skills At least 2 years of previous experience operating CNC mills and/or lathes in a prototype or low-production facility. Proficiency in operating CNC machine tools, including mills and lathes. Hands-on experience using digital micrometers and calipers for precise measurements. Ability to pass a micrometer test prior to placement. Comfort working in a very fast-paced environment with strict timelines and tight tolerances. Strong reliability and consistent attendance history. Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain focus on quality and accuracy. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing or machining environment. Familiarity with hand tools commonly used in machine shops. GED or equivalent education is preferred, though not required. Experience working in prototype or low-volume production shops. Demonstrated stability in previous employment and solid job tenure. Work Environment This is a medium-sized prototype machine parts facility that has operated for about 50 years, so the interior has an older shop appearance while remaining generally clean. The floor can be somewhat disorganized, reflecting an active and busy production environment. There is no air conditioning on the shop floor, so it can be warm during the summer months. The role is on 2nd shift, typically 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with potential overtime that may shift hours to approximately 5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. and occasional Saturday work. You will work around CNC mills, lathes, and standard hand measurement tools such as digital micrometers and calipers in a production-focused, fast-paced setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Garden City, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
