Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU/Peds Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days/Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Hours per Week Experience: Minimum of 2 Years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS Must-Have: Pediatric and Adult Experience Description: Department provides care for both pediatric and adult patients. Traveling nurses must have experience in pediatrics and adults. Patient population primarily consists of adults, but pediatric cases may occur. The unit has 27 beds, with the possibility of shared rooms. The nurse to patient ratio ranges from 1:3 to 1:5. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS. Common diagnoses include CHF, respiratory failure, Afib, DKA, GI bleeds, dementia, AKI, suicidal ideations, PEs, pneumonia, influenza, and COVID. Experience with chest tubes, identifying arrhythmias, cardioversions, TEEs, post-heart catheterization patients, defibrillator use, pain management, and PPE is essential. Registered Nurses are required to titrate intravenous medications. Common titratable and set-rate drips include Cardizem, insulin, heparin, lasix, electrolytes, dobutamine, and dopamine. There is a charge nurse on the unit who will also take an assignment. Nurse aides and tele­monitor techs are available to assist on the unit. Registered Nurses are required to read their own telemetry strips. Shifts are typically from 7 AM to 7 PM. Scheduling is done without self-scheduling, but block scheduling is accommodated when possible for travelers. Weekend requirements generally involve working every third weekend, with flexibility expected. Holiday requirements typically include every third holiday, including winter holidays. No call or standby requirements are expected. Floating to MedSurg may occur with a full assignment. Scrub colors must be solid with no designs or prints. Natural hair color is required. There is a two-day nursing department orientation and one shift on the floor for training. Cancellations may occur with specific notice as per policy. Charting is done using the EPIC system. A BSN is not required. Certification and licensing must be maintained for practice. The care setting is acute. Weekend and holiday work is a requirement of the position.
