Job Description - Physician Assistant (7454-1491) Wythe Family Care Center Summary of Position The Physician Assistant is directly responsible to the physician and has the responsibility for overall direction, utilization, supervision, instruction, treatment and evaluation of patients assigned. The Physician Assistant organizes and conducts medical care programs to facilitate maximum wellness and rehabilitation of patients assigned under direct supervision and responsibility of the attending physician. Programs are adapted within the scope of practice as outlined in the Physician Assistant practice agreement/protocol to individual patient needs. Description of Duties and Responsibilities Supervision: Supervise the activities of the clinic including formulating treatment plans, assessing patient needs, and maintaining open communication with supervising physicians and community partners. Evaluations: Responsible for evaluations of all patients referred, submission of reports, notifying referral sources, eliciting patient histories, conducting physical examinations, reaching tentative diagnoses, and ordering appropriate laboratory tests. Treatment: Practice consistent with the AMA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, maintain patient treatment schedules, confer with care managers, treat patients of all ages, respect patient rights to involvement in treatment decisions, practice ethical responsibility based on cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs. Records and Reports: Authenticate, prepare, and submit clinic reports, ensuring confidentiality; submit evaluation reports/summaries, progress reports, office visit notes, special reports, and daily attendance records. Meetings and Conferences: Attend clinic/provider meetings and regular clinic meetings to report activities, discuss patient needs and progress, review reports and records, and plan future goals. Professional Status and Public Relations: Keep abreast of new techniques, attend conventions, provide community talks, and maintain good public relations. Delegation of Responsibility: Delegate portions of duties to clinic personnel with physician approval. New Personnel: Assist with recruitment, orientation, and evaluation of new personnel. Clinic/Facility Personnel: Evaluate and report on the work of other employees or volunteers within assigned area. Planning: Plan for future improvement in procedures and organization, and assist the physician or director in planning new programs. Policies and Procedures: Keep current and adhere to policies and procedures, assist in revisions, and participate in risk management. Ages of Patients Served 2 – 12 Years (Pediatrics) 13 – 18 Years (Adolescent) 19 – 64 Years (Adult) 65+ Years (Geriatric) Working Conditions Potential hazards include exposure to chemicals, blood or body fluids, extreme conditions, communicable diseases, dust/fumes/gases/odors (including asbestos), unprotected heights, moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, repetitive motions, and x‑ray electromagnetic energy. Exposure risks vary from None to Very Frequent. Functional Requirements Physical: Able to perform medium to heavy work; frequent lifting of 50 pounds or more, work in wet/slippery conditions, bend, kneel, reach, move beds or furniture. Communication: Express and exchange ideas verbally, perceive sounds. Infection Control: Knowledge of infection control standards, isolation room techniques, and policies. Personal protective equipment is required for this position. Confidentiality Employees must keep patient and firm information confidential, sign a confidentiality statement, and may not disclose information except to authorized personnel or when required by law. Qualifications Graduate of a school or program accredited by the AMA and preferred minimum of two years clinic experience.
