Public Health School NurseUnder the direction of the School Nurse Supervisor, the Public Health School Nurse is responsible for providing direct professional care for student acute illnesses and injuries, managing chronic health conditions (through IHPs), and acts as a liaison between families, school staff, and health care professionals to provide a safe and healthy learning environment.Summary of Job DutiesResponsibilities include but not limited to:Performing health screeningsAssessing students' health and developing a plan of careConducting assessment and immunization record review in alignment with Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Ohio Department of Education standards (ODE)Administering medication and treatments as requiredDocumenting data, generating reports, and completing appropriate forms as requiredProviding educational sessions for students throughout the school year and faculty as neededDeveloping educational guidance and providing education to patients, high-risk groups, healthcare providers, and others in the community concerning student needsMinimum Qualifications and RequirementsPH Nurse I/C41: Bachelor's degree in nursing with 2 years of relevant experiencePH Nurse II/C42: Bachelor's degree in nursing with 4 years of relevant experience (2 years of which are Public Health)Current valid Licensure from State of Ohio to practice as a Registered NurseSchool Nurse Licensure or qualifications to obtain LicensureMust obtain 24 CE's every two (2) years (including one nursing law education credit)Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).Understands and acknowledges that Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County uses evidence-based and evidence-informed public health practices based on scientific research including health promotion theory and practice, environmental health measures, and communicable disease control measures including vaccination, isolation, and quarantine practices, and medicine for treatment and prevention of disease, among others.Understands and acknowledges the use of tobacco or nicotine products in any form including replacement therapy products and prescription medications used to treat smoking addiction for anyone hired after January 1, 2014, is prohibitedRequired to play an active role during a public health emergency, crisis, outbreak, incident, or event in which the Health Commissioner deems additional personnel resources are warranted.
