Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the research, design, and development of physical products and mechanical systems. In this role, you will take concepts from initial CAD modeling through prototyping, testing, and production hand-off. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, industrial designers, and manufacturing partners to deliver reliable, high-performing mechanical hardware.

Responsibilities

• 3D CAD Modeling & Drafting: Create 3D CAD models, detailed assembly drawings, and 2D manufacturing prints (using SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Creo) incorporating GD&T standards.
• Prototyping & Testing: Build and test functional prototypes, design test fixtures, and perform stress/failure analysis (FEA) to validate performance under operating conditions.
• Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Optimize mechanical components for high-volume manufacturing processes, including injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and die casting.
• Component Selection & BOM Management: Select off-the-shelf mechanical hardware, bearings, motors, and materials, and create detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Vendor & Production Collaboration: Coordinate with domestic and international tooling vendors and suppliers to resolve technical issues during production rollouts.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain engineering change orders (ECOs), technical specifications, and regulatory compliance documentation throughout the product life cycle.

Skills & Qualifications

• CAD & Analysis Tools: Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or Fusion 360) and basic finite element analysis (FEA) simulations.
• Engineering Fundamentals: Deep understanding of mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, tolerances, and GD&T principles.
• Manufacturing Knowledge: Hands-on experience with prototyping techniques (3D printing, machining) and production manufacturing methods.
• Analytical Problem-Solving: Strong diagnostic skills for analyzing root causes of hardware performance failures and mechanical stress points.
• Team Collaboration: Excellent communication skills to interface effectively with electrical engineers, firmware teams, and supply chain partners.
• Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required (Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field preferred); 2–4+ years of hardware or mechanical design experience.
