The disability process involves a step-by-step evaluation of the client’s impairments and their ability/inability to perform work. HCS 2 (Nursing) staff review medical evidence and determine if the client’s condition meets the definition of a disability, using a sequential evaluation process based on established federal criteria, the same criteria used by the Social Security Administration. Minimum Qualifications : Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current NYS Department of Health Employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive, service as a Health Care Surveyor 2 (Nursing), SG20 and able to meet the minimum qualifications for non-competitive appointment as seen below.Non-Competitive Candidates via NY HELPS: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and one year of post-licensure, specialized professional administrative or professional clinical experience.Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have strong analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to details and will also have good oral and written communication skills. Candidates should have proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access); the ability to work well independently and as part of a team and to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Professional experience in public health insurance programs, including New York's Medicaid, Medicare and/or Child Health Plus and supervisory experience is a plus.
