Apprentice Hvac Technician

HVAC Service TechnicianThe HVAC Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in environments such as offices, retail stores, and other business facilities. You will ride along with experienced technicians, assist with repair and maintenance of existing systems, and use basic hand and testing tools to perform entry-level diagnostics while receiving on-the-job training. You will also support installation projects as needed and work from blueprints and schematics to troubleshoot and maintain preexisting HVAC units.ResponsibilitiesRide along with experienced technicians to assist with repair and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems.Use basic hand tools and testing equipment to perform entry-level diagnostics and support on-the-job training.Support HVAC installation jobs when needed, including assisting with setup, assembly, and system start-up.Regularly inspect and test HVAC systems to ensure they are functioning properly and safely.Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in HVAC systems using blueprints, schematics, and testing tools.Repair or replace faulty parts and components in HVAC systems to restore proper operation.Perform regular preventative maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.Verify that HVAC systems operate efficiently and comply with applicable safety and environmental standards.Work on commercial and industrial job sites with both new and preexisting HVAC units.Drive to job sites within approximately 30 miles of the company's headquarters in the Rochester, NY area.Participate in an on-call rotation, being available for 24-hour service coverage for one week at a time on a recurring basis.Essential SkillsHands-on experience with HVAC servicing, including inspection, maintenance, and repair.Ability to perform troubleshooting on HVAC systems using basic diagnostic tools.Experience performing preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment.Understanding of electrical concepts related to HVAC systems and components.Familiarity with boilers and related mechanical systems.Knowledge of OSHA safety practices; OSHA 10 certification preferred.EPA-related knowledge or exposure to environmental and safety standards for HVAC work.Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to drive to job sites.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for HVAC systems.Strong service mindset with the ability to work independently in the field.Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours service.Additional Skills & QualificationsOSHA 10 certification (preferred).EPA-related training or certification (preferred).Prior experience working on commercial or industrial HVAC systems.Experience with electrical troubleshooting in HVAC applications.Familiarity with boilers and preventive maintenance programs.Interest in ongoing training and schooling related to HVAC, supported by tuition or training reimbursement.Strong communication skills to interact with customers and team members on job sites.High level of personal responsibility and accountability in a field-based role.Why Work Here?You join a growing, close-knit team that values attitude and potential, offering significant freedom paired with trust and responsibility. Technicians drive themselves to job sites and typically work within approximately 30 miles of the headquarters in the Rochester, NY area, with all jobs local and no out-of-town travel required. You will work on commercial and industrial job sites with both new and preexisting HVAC units, using power tools and PPE provided by the company (work boots supplied by the employee). Standard hours are first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. Service technicians participate in an on-call rotation, being on call for 24 hours a day for one week (Monday through Sunday) approximately every 5 to 6 weeks, with a bonus provided for each on-call week. The environment offers significant autonomy in the field, balanced by clear expectations and support from a small, collaborative team.Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Rochester, NY.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
