Job Description

The Maintenance Technician plans and performs scheduled maintenance, responds to equipment breakdowns, and ensures reliable operation of facility systems. This role diagnoses faults, repairs equipment, and supports preventive maintenance programs while maintaining strong safety and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and undertake scheduled maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and troubleshoot issues to restore operations safely and efficiently.
  • Diagnose mechanical and system faults using blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Repair and service HVAC systems and other facility equipment, including washing coils and changing filters.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on facility systems and equipment to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Supervise and support engineering and technical staff during maintenance and repair activities when required.
  • Obtain and manage specialist components, fixtures, and fittings needed for repairs and projects.
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety legislation, site policies, and industry best practices.
  • Create, refine, and follow maintenance procedures to standardize work and improve efficiency.
  • Manage stocks of supplies, parts, and equipment to support ongoing maintenance operations.
  • Assist maintenance teams in creating and improving preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
  • Write or adjust programs related to equipment operation or maintenance processes, as needed.
  • Perform both reactive maintenance and troubleshooting in the field and planned repairs in the shop.
  • Work at heights up to 100 feet using catwalks and boom lifts when required for maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedules to support after-hours or urgent maintenance needs.
  • Adapt work schedules as needed for vacation coverage, extended time off, pressing projects, or changing site demands.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in general maintenance within a facility or industrial environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Experience working with HVAC systems, including washing coils, changing filters, and performing routine service.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and facility maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to perform facilities maintenance both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation and safe work practices in maintenance operations.
  • Comfort working at heights up to 100 feet on catwalks and boom lifts, following proper safety protocols.
  • Ability to manage tools, parts, and supplies inventory to support maintenance activities.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and facility systems.
  • Willingness to participate in rotating on-call schedules and adjust hours when operational needs require.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a food manufacturing or industrial facility environment is beneficial.
  • Background in facilities maintenance with exposure to both reactive and preventive maintenance work.
  • Ability to support and guide engineering or technical staff during maintenance tasks.
  • Comfort working both independently and as part of a maintenance team.
  • Basic familiarity with writing or modifying programs related to equipment or maintenance processes.
  • Flexibility to transition to other sites if needed as facility operations change over time.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site at a large industrial facility, with work split between outdoor reactive maintenance and troubleshooting, and indoor shop work focused on preventive maintenance and repairs. The position follows a first-shift schedule, typically 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating on-call responsibilities every few weeks. Schedules may occasionally change to cover vacations, extended time off, high-priority projects, or operational demands. The environment includes both indoor and outdoor conditions and requires working at heights up to 100 feet on catwalks and boom lifts. The facility operates as a food manufacturing site, and technicians use standard maintenance tools, equipment, and safety gear appropriate for industrial and HVAC work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dayton, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $45.00/hr.
