Direct Support Professional (DSP) / In-Home Caregiver

Position: Direct Support Professional (DSP) / In-Home Caregiver
Client: 27-year-old adult male
Setting: Private residence with parent/guardian

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, patient, compassionate, and responsible Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide in-home support to a 27-year-old adult male who resides with his mother.

The ideal candidate will provide assistance and verbal prompting with activities of daily living while encouraging the client to maintain as much independence as possible. The DSP should be comfortable providing redirection when needed and maintaining a safe, respectful, and structured environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist and provide verbal prompts with activities of daily living (ADLs) .
• Provide reminders and prompting for getting dressed and maintaining an appropriate daily routine .
• Provide reminders and prompts when it is time for meals and snacks .
• Encourage independence with daily activities.
• Client is able to eat independently and does not require feeding assistance.
• Client is able to use the restroom independently .
• Provide appropriate redirection if the client displays undressing behaviors or attempts to remove clothing at inappropriate times .
• Maintain the client’s privacy, dignity, and personal boundaries during all care and redirection.
• Encourage the client to participate in exercise, walking, physical activity, and other healthy activities .
• Provide companionship and encourage appropriate social interaction.
• Assist the client with following his established daily schedule and routine.
• Observe the client for changes in behavior, mood, or functioning and communicate concerns to the appropriate family member or supervisor.
• Follow the client’s individualized care/service plan and household expectations.
• Provide medication assistance or support as permitted by the employee’s certification and the client’s care plan.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment for the client.
• Provide transportation to appointments, activities, errands, or community outings when required.
• Complete required documentation regarding services provided, behaviors, activities, or incidents when applicable.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have :

• Current Medication Administration/Medication Certification
• Current First Aid Certification
• Current CPR Certification
• Valid Driver’s License
• Reliable transportation
• Ability to pass all required background checks
• Ability to follow written care plans and instructions
• Strong communication skills
• Patience and the ability to redirect behaviors calmly and respectfully
• Dependability and good attendance
