Registered Nurse (RN) - OR

Position Overview

This RN works in the operating room, preparing and assisting with surgical procedures, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring patient safety throughout perioperative phases.

The role involves collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to optimize outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient positioning, equipment setup, and sterile technique for procedures.
• Support scrub and circulating roles; monitor patient status before, during, and after anesthesia.
• Administer perioperative medications as ordered and document intraoperative events.
• Maintain accurate counts of instruments and supplies; ensure patient safety standards are met.
• Provide updates to the surgical team and participate in post-anesthesia handoffs.

Qualifications

Education:

ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program.

Licensure:

Current RN license valid in the state of employment.

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) preferred

Experience or Skills:

Experience in perioperative nursing or operating room support; familiarity with sterile processing and patient safety protocols.

Experience

• OR or ambulatory surgery center experience
• Experience with anesthesia handoff and intraoperative monitoring

Preferred

• CNOR certification
• BSN preferred

Work Environment

Operating room environment with high reliance on teamwork, precision, and rapid communication; variable shift lengths depending on the surgical schedule.

Documentation occurs in the perioperative record within the hospital EHR system.
