Job Description The APN fellow is a licensed independent practitioner who is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for children in accordance with professional standards and hospital guidelines. The APN fellow will receive education and training in Pediatric Physiatry Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for one year, with increasing independence. The APN fellow will work with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to provide care to children with special health care needs. The APN fellow provides staff and patient education and is an integral member of the health care team. Fellowship Overview The Pediatric Physiatry Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation APN Fellowship is a 12-month program providing didactic education and focused clinical experience to prepare the APN to provide care to children with special health care needs (e.g., cerebral palsy, brain injury, neurodevelopmental conditions). The program is integrated with the ACGME Fellowship in Physiatry at CSH and includes the Rutgers Boggs Center LEND Fellowship. Graduates receive a certificate of completion from CSH. Shift Mon-Fri 8a-4p Qualifications Masters or Doctoral degree in nursing, minimum 3.5 GPA National board certification as an NP New Jersey RN license New Jersey APN license CDS, DEA, and BLS New graduates will be considered; prior APN experience is not required. Program Details The Physiatry APN Fellowship program provides varied clinical and educational opportunities to prepare for autonomous practice at CSH. The fellow will have opportunities to: Understand developmental processes of infants, children, adolescents and young adults in context of families and communities Understand biological, psychological, social influences on development Identify and manage child with abnormal muscle tone or mobility impairment Understand and manage equipment use in children with mobility issues Employment & Schedule The fellow will be a full-time salaried employee of CSH, eligible for benefits, and a member of the medical staff. The fellow will sign a 3-year contract: one year of fellowship, followed by two years of employment in full time capacity, pending satisfactory performance. Oversight by Lead APN with Chief Medical Officer and Section Chief for Physiatry. Primary preceptor will be a physician with GME physiatry training and a senior APN for role development. Site of practice will vary by preceptor availability. Outpatient sites, inpatient rehabilitation, New Brunswick and inpatient Long Term Care, Mountainside.
