Data Engineer (Backend)Location: San Francisco, CAExperience: 5-6Team: EngineeringPractice: DataTasked with ownership and management of the shared services data environmentsOversee the shared data services environment and ensures company-wide adherence to the data lifecycle, privacy, security, and ultimately the data strategyBuild internal systems driving the effectiveness of Client's shared data environmentBuild new and extend existing systemsBuilding scalable backend systems for our applications, but with the opportunity to work on other parts of the stack as wellBS or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience)A strong understanding of data engineering with experience writing and maintaining analytics jobs using Scalding, Spark or similar toolset.Experience with of Hadoop, big query, and other systems for storing and using data for analyticsProficient in writing server-side application logic in a JVM-based environment (we are a Scala environment so Scala is a nice to have, you will learn Scala here)You get work done and thrive in a small team environmentYou have a strong sense of ownership, and a curiosity to understand how things work, even if they take you outside your area of expertiseKnowledge of core CS concepts such as: common data structures and algorithms, profiling/optimizationBonus Points:Experience with Scala or other functional programming languagePrior experience in enterprise data management
