As a Lab Phlebotomist, you'll play a crucial role in gathering high-quality blood samples to support diagnostic testing and patient diagnoses. Your expertise will help ensure specimens are collected safely, accurately, and efficiently, contributing to timely, reliable lab results. In this position, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with diverse patient populations, including pediatric and geriatric individuals, providing comfort and confidence during each visit.
Responsibilities:
Draw blood samples from patients of all ages using established phlebotomy techniques.
Prepare and label specimens accurately for laboratory testing.
Explain procedures to patients clearly to ease concerns and foster a trusting environment.
Maintain accurate records of all specimen collections and patient interactions.
Follow safety protocols and infection control procedures to uphold a safe work environment.
Assist in daily operational tasks to ensure smooth clinic flow.
Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive patient information.
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet departmental goals and standards.
Maintain certifications and stay current with best practices in phlebotomy and patient care.
Required Skills:
Proven proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
Strong attention to detail for specimen labeling and documentation.
Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to create a compassionate patient experience.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting.
Proficiency in data entry and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Good organizational skills, reliability, and punctuality.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions associated with blood collection.
Nice to Have Skills:
Certification in Phlebotomy (preferred or required depending on state requirements).
Prior experience working in a clinical or hospital environment.
Medical assistant or paramedic training.
Experience working with diverse populations, including children and elderly patients.
Familiarity with laboratory procedures and specimen processing.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
At least 6 months of hands-on phlebotomy experience required.
Over 1 year of professional phlebotomy experience is highly desirable.
Customer service experience in a retail or healthcare setting is a plus.
Other Requirements:
Valid phlebotomy certification required in certain states (e.g., California, Nevada, Washington).
Must have reliable transportation and a home city within approximately 20-25 minutes of the work site.
Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime, based on staffing needs.
Availability to work scheduled shifts reliably and commit to the full duration.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with professionalism.
Must pass background checks and meet health and safety requirements.
