Position Description

The Division of Clinical Sciences at the University of California, Riverside is recruiting faculty members in the Department of Internal Medicine. The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate, or Full professor rank. We seek clinical educators to participate in part‑time and/or full‑time inpatient and outpatient clinical practice in Internal Medicine within an academic setting in one or more of the following clinical specialties:

  • Cardiology
  • Dermatology
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Geriatrics
  • Hospitalist
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Nephrology
  • Nocturnist
  • Primary Care
  • Pulmonary & Critical Care

These positions offer excellent opportunities for teaching and pursuing a career in academic medicine with time dedicated to teaching, research, and scholarly activity. Applicants who have completed a clinical fellowship in their respective specialties are preferred. The successful candidates will practice at UC Riverside School of Medicine affiliated Clinics in Inland Southern California.

Founded in 2013, the School of Medicine at UCR is the sixth University of California Medical School and serves the rapidly growing Inland Southern California region by training a much‑needed physician workforce and catalyzing innovations in research, education, and healthcare delivery. The UCR School of Medicine’s mission is to improve the health of the community in the Inland Empire, one of the most ethnically diverse and medically underserved areas of the country. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit‑based evaluations, occurring every 2‑3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

The successful candidates must possess an M.D., or equivalent degree and be eligible to practice in the state of California by the time of employment. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible with the American Board of Internal Medicine or an appropriate American Certifying Board. They must also be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the education of medical students and residents, participate in research, scholarly activities, university and public service appropriate for the academic appointments in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series, and qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and its affiliated hospitals. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Salary: the UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 for the salary range. The salary range for this position is $127,000 – $333,700. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Possess an M.D. or equivalent degree
  • Has current California Medical License or is eligible for licensure in the state of California
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or an appropriate American certifying board
  • Must qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and its affiliated hospitals
  • Experience in clinical practice providing inpatient and outpatient care in internal medicine

  • Completed clinical fellowship in the respective specialties
