Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience required License: Active Illinois license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Level 1 trauma experience - Previous travel experience (no first-time travelers) - Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit - Experience with heparin titrated drip based on PTT Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-6 on night shifts. Common diagnoses/Types of patients include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and some medical overflow. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips, specifically heparin. There is a charge nurse on duty 24/7 who does not take an assignment unless necessary. A house supervisor is also available 24/7. Nurse aides and patient care techs are present, with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day, 1:9-10 in the evening, and 1:10-12 at night. Registered Nurses may have to troubleshoot respiratory equipment, although stable COVID cases are rare. Telemetry is house-wide, and nurses are not required to read strips. Shifts are typically 12 hours, and while schedule requests are considered, there is a weekend requirement of every other weekend and holiday requirement every other year. Travelers will float within their general unit and may float to other units based on urgent needs but will only perform skills they are competent in. Scrub colors are not mandated, but tattoos must be covered while on duty, and only ear piercings are allowed. Unit-specific orientation will be provided, which includes necessary training for patient care.
