RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput

Mission Health is seeking an experienced RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput to support efficient, safe patient movement through the Emergency Department and into appropriate levels of care within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. Based in Asheville, NC, Mission Health is a comprehensive healthcare provider committed to improving the health and wellness of the community through advanced medical services and compassionate care. In this role, you will leverage your clinical expertise and strong coordination skills to optimize ED flow, reduce wait times, and enhance the patient and family experience in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput will monitor ED capacity and patient status in real time, collaborate closely with ED physicians, bedside nurses, case management, bed management, and ancillary departments to prioritize admissions, discharges, and transfers, and help ensure the right patient is in the right bed at the right time. You will conduct ongoing assessments of clinical priorities, identify barriers to throughput, escalate issues as needed, and implement evidence-based strategies to support safe and timely transitions of care. Using electronic health record and bed management systems, you will track key metrics, anticipate bottlenecks, and communicate proactive plans to the care team.

Key aspects of this position include coordinating patient placement from triage through discharge or admission, supporting throughput initiatives such as fast track, observation, and holding areas, and reinforcing compliance with clinical pathways, hospital policies, and regulatory standards. The RN Coordinator will serve as a clinical resource for staff, assisting with complex patient situations, facilitating handoffs between departments, and promoting best practices in patient flow, safety, and quality. You will be expected to demonstrate sound clinical judgment, excellent communication, and the ability to function effectively under pressure while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
