36-hour work week | Flexible hours | Salt Lake City, Utah
$74,000–$85,000 annually

Are you a licensed behavioral health professional who is passionate about meeting people where they are and helping them take the next step toward recovery? The Admissions Outreach Liaison provides hands-on support to individuals at the First Step House Resource Center, helping guests navigate substance use, behavioral health, and other barriers to stability.

This role is a great opportunity to use your clinical and recovery skills outside of a traditional treatment setting. You'll engage individuals who may be hesitant or uncertain about treatment, use motivational interviewing and stages-of-change principles to build trust, connect people with treatment and medical care, and help individuals re-engage after returning to the Resource Center.

You'll also work closely with Resource Center staff, First Step House teams, and community partners to coordinate services, provide crisis support, facilitate outreach and education activities, and promote a safe, recovery-oriented environment.

What You'll Do

• Engage Resource Center guests to understand their needs, willingness, and readiness for treatment.
• Use motivational interviewing and stages-of-change principles to build relationships and encourage movement toward recovery.
• Connect guests with appropriate substance use disorder, mental health, medical, and other supportive services.
• Coordinate with the First Step House Admissions team regarding potential program admissions and treatment referrals.
• Provide recovery-oriented support, advocacy, and encouragement to individuals experiencing substance use, behavioral health, homelessness, and other barriers to stability.
• Develop and support Wellness Recovery Action Plans and other individualized recovery-planning tools.
• Facilitate weekly outreach, engagement, and educational activities focused on treatment access, recovery, harm reduction, health, and stability.
• Provide crisis support, de-escalation, conflict resolution, and appropriate interventions while maintaining strong professional boundaries.
• Support guests who are exiting the Resource Center due to behavioral concerns and help facilitate successful re-engagement when they return.
• Coordinate transportation for treatment, detox, hospitalization, Resource Center move-outs, assessments, and other essential appointments.
• Work closely with Resource Center staff, clinical teams, client advocates, and community partners to coordinate care and address participant needs.
• Maintain strong communication and collaboration with medical, behavioral health, housing, recovery, and other community providers.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation of client interactions, observations, recovery plans, and services provided.
• Maintain accurate information in UHMIS and other required databases to support program and grant requirements.
• Complete security logs and incident reports and coordinate with appropriate staff when safety or crisis concerns arise.
• Protect confidential client information and follow applicable HIPAA, legal, ethical, and agency requirements.
• Attend clinical staff meetings, employee trainings, team meetings, and partner-agency coordination meetings.
• Provide exceptional customer service to clients, funders, community partners, and internal teams.
• Collaborate with supervisors and treatment-team members to address client needs, safety concerns, and service coordination while working within the scope of the position.

Required Qualifications

• A master's degree and an active license in the State of Utah as an associate clinical mental health counselor, clinical mental health counselor, social worker, or marriage and family therapist OR an active license in the State of Utah as a substance use disorder counselor is required
• Experience in both substance abuse and mental health treatment fields is preferred.
• Experience with UHMIS
• Valid driver's license required.

• Experience working in both substance use disorder and mental health treatment preferred.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, or other complex barriers to stability preferred.
• Experience with UHMIS preferred.
• Strong understanding of professional boundaries and ethical client engagement.
• Experience using motivational interviewing, de-escalation, crisis management, and conflict resolution strategies.
• Ability to engage individuals at different stages of change and adapt your approach accordingly.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in challenging or crisis situations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately complete documentation within required timelines.
• Ability to handle confidential and legally sensitive information appropriately.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and demonstrate respect for individuals with different backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experiences.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical teams, community partners, and other service providers.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
