Electrical & Instrumentation Technician Reports To: Technical Leads Controls Shift: Night Shift 6:00pm-6:30am Location: McCalla, Alabama Pay Range: $32-$42 per hour (starting rate based on previous experience). $2.00 shift differential for Night Shift is not included in the pay range. Key Responsibilities Responsible for the manufacture of consumer foods which comply with all food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. Understands and supports company safety policies and performs work related activities in a safe manner. Recognizes unsafe working conditions, coaches peers, and suggests new safety standards as appropriate. Use Studio5000 or Logix5000 platform hardware and software; drives and motion control; FactoryTalk ME & SE; Ethernet/IP Control Network; power distribution. Operate, maintain, and clean production equipment. Follow, understand, and improve operational, maintenance, and sanitation standards in a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) work environment. Perform equipment changeovers and sanitation activities. Perform preventative maintenance activities, work orders, and lubrication efficiently to maximize performance of plant equipment. Adjust maintenance activities as appropriate. Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, instrumentation, controls, and automation equipment and software. Proficiency in operation and troubleshooting of: Food manufacturing and utility instrumentation Electrical testing equipment Utilize drawings, prints, and instruction manuals to determine proper steps for equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs. Maintain and adhere to company drawing and documentation standards. Coach team members on electrical, instrumentation, and controls skills, machine functionality, defect identification and resolution, and equipment repair. Participate in training and qualification programs for designated line/area; ensure effective training and maintain consistent qualification standards. Use continuous improvement tools, including breakdown elimination, to eliminate losses and drive issues to root cause. Document, communicate, and implement corrective and preventative actions. Serve as owner of one or more technical, safety, or quality systems. Build technician skills and provide ongoing coaching. Create documentation such as SOPs, job aids, and PM improvements. Attend technical training sessions, vendor visits, and scheduled maintenance activities to increase knowledge in E&I technology (networks, servers, FactoryTalk, motion controls, etc.). Attain and maintain low voltage qualification within twelve months of start date. Use a computer to input and maintain accurate records and data; utilize email and online training resources. Maintain accurate electronic database of repair and maintenance activities including parts usage and time tracking. Facilitate effective shift passdowns with the prior/next shift to discuss safety, quality, and production issues. Lead projects to improve safety, quality, or production results in a designated area. Work as part of a team and assist fellow employees when needed. Other duties as assigned. Education and/Or Experience High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Must be able to work: Day Shift 6:00am-6:30pm or Night Shift 6:00pm-6:30am. Associates or technical degree or training preferred. Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience with electrical systems, PLC, motor and motion controls, SCADA systems, device and information networks, sensors, instrumentation equipment for manufacturing. Previous mechanical/maintenance experience preferred. Previous food manufacturing experience preferred. Language Skills Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules, GMPs, and general instructions. Good verbal and written communication skills required. Use computer to input data for production. Ability to give and receive feedback. Reasoning Ability Ability to perform critical thinking skills to problem solve and resolve conflicts. Physical Demands Must be able to work 12‑hour shifts, days or nights. Lift and carry up to 60 pounds. Stand, sit, walk, enter confined spaces, push, pull, kneel, squat, and climb. Perform repetitive actions, reach, and feel. Physical demands described are representative of those needed to perform essential functions. Work Environment Willing to work 12‑hour shifts and overtime as needed. 2‑2‑3 schedule, days or nights. Flexible schedule as needed. Travel for trainings as required. Knowledge of general electrical safety and general electrical schematics, power distribution, controls, motor and motor controls, PLC logic controls, HMIs, and other industrial controls. Ability to provide leadership and prioritization in designated equipment area. Ability to set and meet goals. Ability to prioritize and manage workload in a changing environment. Ability to work independently and on a team. Work well with support personnel to maintain high standards for safety, quality, and reliability and drive improvements. Data‑driven decision making and engagement with others. Basic mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills. Basic computer skills including email and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn company‑specific computer systems, including maintenance enterprise system.
