Position Summary: SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a qualified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide patient care in an acute care and clinical setting. The LPN will be responsible for supporting physicians and registered nurses in delivering high-quality care while performing a wide range of clinical and administrative duties. The LPN will assist in patient intake, prepare patients for examinations, and support clinical procedures. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording vital signs, assisting with treatments and procedures, administering injections, and maintaining exam rooms and clinical areas. The role also includes coordination of care activities such as scheduling appointments, preparing charts, and obtaining insurance authorizations and referrals. The LPN will implement nursing care activities under the supervision of the RN, observe and report patient responses to treatment, and participate in unit operations. Candidates must be able to perform the majority of patient care functions independently with minimal orientation while maintaining strong communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Key Responsibilities: - Provide direct patient care in an acute care/clinical setting - Greet and prepare patients for examinations - Take, record, and monitor vital signs - Assist physicians during exams and clinical procedures - Set up trays and assist with injections and minor procedures - Maintain exam rooms and clinical areas - Perform administrative duties including: o Appointment scheduling o Chart preparation and filing o Insurance authorizations and referrals - Administer injections and assist with procedures (e.g., paps) - Input and maintain documentation in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) - Observe and report patient response to treatments - Support nursing unit operations and care coordination - Deliver care with minimal supervision in alignment with care plans Qualifications: - Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license - CPR certification (current or eligible for recertification) - Minimum 1 year of clinical experience required - Prior inpatient or acute care experience preferred - Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) strongly preferred - Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills - Ability to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams Additional Requirements: - Must be legally authorized to work in the United States - Must successfully pass pre-employment health clearance - Subject to drug screening and criminal background check This is a temporary assignment, the assignment details are: - Start Date: July 3, 2026 - End Date: October 3, 2026 - Shift: Days - Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 1 - 3 years Salary: $42 Hourly Bonus/Commission: No
