Design Engineer – Contract

Location: South of Indianapolis, IN | On-site

Pay: $30–$35 per hour, depending on experience

Schedule: First shift, approximately 6:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Duration: Approximately 12 months, with potential for extension or permanent employment; neither is guaranteed.

We are partnering with an established manufacturer seeking a Design Engineer to develop customized equipment components and systems. This role offers hands-on experience taking designs from customer requirements through production while collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams. Recent or upcoming graduates with relevant internship, co-op, or project experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Create 2D drawings and 3D models using CATIA or SolidWorks.
• Develop design packages and bills of materials based on customer requirements.
• Design components that meet performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturing requirements.
• Maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and engineering change documentation.
• Collaborate with production engineers to support manufacturing and resolve design questions.
• Troubleshoot fit, function, and assembly issues involving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Support testing and review results to validate designs and improve component reliability.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent technical discipline, or currently completing a degree in one of these fields.
• Experience using CATIA or SolidWorks for 2D drafting and 3D modeling.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Willingness to work hands-on with equipment to investigate and resolve design issues.
• Manufacturing internship, co-op, or related engineering experience preferred.
• Finite element analysis experience is a plus.
