Sr. Medical Technologist - Hematology - Ochsner Medical Center West Bank - Days

Job Overview This role performs routine and special laboratory tests, coordinates the implementation of new procedures, resolves day‑to‑day technical problems, and supervises the department section to ensure reliable patient testing and timely services. The position monitors laboratory performance improvement and quality control activities, adheres to institutional policies and accrediting standards, and maintains patient confidentiality. Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or related chemistry, physics, or biology field. Copy of transcript required. Work Experience Required: Minimum of 4 years of experience in an appropriate clinical laboratory under a qualified director, including at least one year in the relevant lab section. Documentation of section rotation or a signed letter from the laboratory medical director confirming competence in that section may be provided. Certifications Required: Current state license (if applicable) and ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist. Incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004 must complete the ASCP Certification Maintenance Program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills for data entry and retrieval. Strong verbal and written communication, presenting information clearly. Proficiency with Windows applications, laboratory software, and keyboard use. Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities. Experience in a controlled environment, following safety measures for chemicals, body fluids, and bloodborne pathogens. Advanced analytical skills for data collection, calculations, system log maintenance, and laboratory computer operation. Judgment skills to identify and solve problems and manage challenging situations. Stress management to maintain a professional atmosphere and quality service. Ability to work independently. Job Duties Coordinate clinical competency within the section. Perform routine and special laboratory procedures. Maintain regulatory compliance and performance improvement. Assist and consult with the laboratory supervisor/director. Maintain competency, meet goals and objectives. Adapt communication and service approach to the patient population, respecting privacy and explaining procedures clearly. Perform other related duties as required.
