Senior Software Engineer

The Role We’re looking for impact‑focused Software Generalists to join a specialized team that serves frontier model creators and enterprise AI application developers. As a full‑stack engineer, you will work across Prolific’s domains to solve customer and product problems. This role is hybrid, based out of our San‑Francisco office, with approximately one to two days per week in‑person. You will collaborate with customers and internal teams in the US and UK, balancing startup agility with scalable engineering. What you’ll bring to the role Over four years of experience in a product engineering role Ability to translate business concepts into software models Fast learning across the breadth of Prolific’s domains Experience with monoliths and distributed systems Strong communication and customer‑interaction skills Solid understanding of modern web application architecture and design patterns Experience supporting applications in production environments Judgment balancing scrappy startup execution with reliable, scalable engineering Comfort with rapid iteration and responding to customer queries with urgency Familiarity with key technologies: Python (Django & FastAPI) TypeScript and JavaScript (Vue.js) SQL and NoSQL databases (MongoDB and PostgreSQL) Cloud deployment (GCP, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions & CircleCI) Monitoring and observability (Datadog) What you’ll be doing in the role In this role, you will operate with high ownership and a product mindset at start‑up pace to solve customer problems and seize business opportunities. You will be part of a cross‑functional Product Engineering team optimized for a single customer group. Key responsibilities include: Collaborating directly with account managers, customer success specialists, and customers to deeply understand their problem spaces Designing, building, and shipping solutions with autonomy and a high engineering standard Supporting systems in production and responding to incidents when required Working across Prolific domains and shared codebases Key Technologies Cloud Platforms: Google Cloud Platform and AWS Programming Languages: Python, JavaScript, and TypeScript Frameworks: Vue.js, Django REST Framework, container‑based and serverless architectures Databases: MongoDB and DynamoDB DevOps and Monitoring: CircleCI, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Celery, EventBridge, and DataDog Why Prolific is a great place to work We have built a platform that connects researchers and companies with a global pool of participants, enabling the collection of high‑quality, ethically sourced human behavioral data.
